It's the question on everyone's lips: When is The Sending, the fifth and final book in the Obernewtyn Chronicles, coming out?At this stage, as far as we know, The Sending is due to come out around October, 2006, although this date is subject to change. Any additional information will be added to this thread as it comes to hand, so be sure to check back.

Here is what Isobelle posted on these boards back in March: my dear faithful readers I have absolutely not forgotten The Sending... Nor am I blocked. I have been working on it for years as u know, and when I work on other things it is either because I need to think or get some space about something in The Sending. This year I will have three books come out. The Cat Dreamer which is smaller, Little Fur which is for me a book that has been a long time in the coming and one where I go out on a limb... but that is good for anyone, not just a writer. I also have a really big stand alone book coming out, which I have been working on for six years, called Alyzon Whitestarr. It is not that I let other books get in the way or get diverted, it is only that my life is a tapestry of book threads that weave in and about one another, so that I am never exactly sure when one will finish. But I am sure that I will finish The Sending by the end of his year. I have been in australia for a short tour, not quite two weeks, and I go home to do the final edit of Alyzon Whitestarr which will come out this year, which I have to deliver by mid april, and then the rest of the year will be devoted to The Sending. I am endlessly touched and motivated by your ffidelity! warm good wishes isobelle carmody ps I am afraid that I will not finish Darkbane until next year, but anyway the publishers would not bring it out in the same year as they bring out The Sending. That also (sort of) answers questions on when Darkbane is coming out... If The Sending comes out late 2006, then hopefully Darkbane will be out late 2007.

Here is the latest information on the release date, straight from the horse's mouth (so to speak). When Frankie, Emerald and Yvette met Isobelle at the launch of Little Fur, one of their first questions was, quite naturally, "When is The Sending coming out?" And the answer was as follows: Isobelle Carmody: …well, I’ve almost finished it. I thought I’d finish it before I came here, and it comes out next year (2006). It should come out next year, if it doesn’t, it will slip into the beginning of the following year (2007).Naturally, we hope it won't slip into 2007, but if it takes that long to make The Sending the perfect conclusion to the Obernewtyn Chronicles, then we can't complain too much. Read the whole interview HERE.

maybe there is no ending to the OC! Maybe she'll finish it, but it won't end!
maybe it has no ending...
lol, I can just imagine it:
and so my quest was done, once and for all. "No, not done." Darga sent, "There is the home journey, yet." "Truespoken." I replied, looking at what remained of the WeaponMachnies. On that thought, I took a deep breath, and headed for the mountains...

It'd be great if it was coming out in August, but we've learnt time after time that publishers don't often give accurate information to booksellers. (Just ask Ethereal. ) The launch of The Sending is going to be HUGE and we anticipate another visit to the messageboards from Isobelle when it's about to happen.

I suspect if it does come out it'll be October/November 2006. She'll want to catch the christmas rush...

Not she, her publishers. Once an author has finished their work, it's not up to them when it is released. It will all depend on what the other publishing housings are releasing at that time. If say, the unlikely event that JK Rowling was releasing her book in October as well, they would probably push the release date back a bit, or make it earlier. More than likely later because so many people would be expected to hold their money to buy the HP book.
But first she has to FINISH the book....

(Just ask Ethereal. ) I've ranted far too much, haven't I? I'll see if I can find out the anything next tiem the Penguin rep comes by. She usually comes armed with the latest information, if there is any. And the reps are usually more reliable than the customer service ppl, 'casue they at least have access to the most up to date info.

That's good news, Grunty. Have you tried looking for a second-hand copy of The Keeping Place on Amazon, perhaps? Although, once you get TKP, you'll find that it's roughly the same length as the first three put together, so maybe the price makes sense. I think Isobelle would like to release all the books overseas, but the decision rests with her publishers, really. EDIT> Grunty, have you looked at the section for ordering the books from the main Obernewtyn website? You can order TKP from there for $A15, which is about $US11, although that's before postage. Just click on The Books and then Order the books and see if that's a better price for you. Books ordered through the website can be shipped overseas.

Yea, but it costs 11 dollars more than having it shipped over. actually, if you look on australian book shop, they all cost the same.

I don't know about the USA, but I got TKP shipped to the UK pretty cheaply. Bear in mind that it's $Aus rather than $US. I was shocked by the price, but then I put it through a converter and realised it was actually fairly reasonable. Plus, the place linked from Ober.net has really helpful, friendly staff and the international shipping was really quick. And the book is way worth it.

If you guys want, we can always organise to do what we did when TKP came out. I remember buying 3 copies when TKP came out - 2 for people in Brit. Basically, if you want it urgently, we can send it to you the first day it comes out, via airmail, but you'll have to foot the bill for the freight (and the book ). The more the better I guess... Though buying it online might get it to you cheaper... The option's always there though

It might work out cheaper shipping-wise if you got several copies and send them to one address in the UK and whoever sends them out from there? Websites tend to charge per item and not by weight so it might go either way. I think I'll probably be back in the UK by the time it comes out, so I'm happy to organise something if the other UK people are interested.
