For people who don't know, the tourist add advertising Australia has had the word 'bloody' ('So where the bloody hell are you?') beeped in the UK, because of its offensivness. Personally, I think its ridiculous, but thats just me. What do you guys thing about it? For more info, heres a website, courtesy of Dark One.

That was on an ad in QLD and there was this big contreversy about it on the news. Personaly, I reckon having it 'beeped' is stupid. If they find it offensive why don't they just take it off instead of ridiculously wrecking it.? Its stupid

I don't get why they think English people will be offended by Bloody...
Have you ever seen an episode of EastEnders?
Sheesh!

To be honest i don't see why the word was bleeped either!
Its not a particularly strong swearword. I suppose it may depend on what time of the day it was shown, as there are certain regulations as to what can be said on TV when 'impressionable young minds' are watching.
I've done some more research and it seems that the ad will be adapted for British TV. However the original ad will still be shown in UK cinemas and on the net.
The UK campaign aparently starts on Monday (13th March)

Because it wasn't aired outside Australia.
It does seem rather silly, but as my brother said, it's probably a good thing in the long run, because the controversy will lead people to go and watch the ads on the internet, whereas on TV they may just have ignored them! ;D

i think it was a really stupid ad to begin with. i think tourism australia should consider the citizens of the country its promoting before it runs out and makes us out to be people who swear all the time. i dunno why but that ad really annoys the heck out of me. maybe its coz i did a degree in tourism and dont consider it to be responsible marketing or something

you'r kinding!? they acctually beeped the word bloody! Ok, there are far far worse words out there then bloody, but pople are a loud to say them, so why are they getting all excited over bloody. if they don't like it find, that's there right, but they don't have to go as far as beeping it out. what other words were said on the show? i bet worse. i mean i don't really like heaps and heaps of swearing, but everyone says bloody! what are they gonna do next, fine us for saying it? BAH

It probably has something to do with the fact that the advertisement would have been aired at all times of the day, as opposed to in the evenings when most children are in bed and TV shows start swearing.

I quite like the ad, and the controversy is actualy really good because the website it's on has like douled its hits since they banned it ;D Everyone wants to see it to find out why The one thing I hope they don't do is translate it. That ad in England, America, NZ fine. But they need to take out the word 'blody' if they translate it into another language because chances are it'll either come across as a really powerful swear word (because translating the usages of sware words is very difficult inoto different languages) or like we're implying the person is covered in blood, like I was saying my knife is bloody from cutting raw meat. when you interpret properly you dont change the meaning/implications/etc. for example i'd say to my friend "i am a reliable worker" but to say it to my other friend it'll go something like... umm...."me work regular".

I'm with Lix, I think the ad's stupid. I'm sick of Australians being portrayed to the world as yobbos who walk around saying 'how's it bloody goin' mate?' and wearing cork hats We just laugh at it, but people who aren't familiar with Australian society might get the wrong idea

I know they'd try to translate it properly, but the thing is that many societies simply don't swear as much as we do and any swear word might put them off. They won't understand the culture it's coming from, whereas the English will. I'm all for translating the ad, but maybe change the end to 'Where the hell are you?' or just 'Where are you' depending on the culture it's going into.
I like the ad because it doesn't show us as yobbos. There are people partying, which is what quite frankly most of the population between 10 and thirty do, and then it shows off some of the awesome tourist destinations like the reef, Uluru...

I think the point behind all the hostility towards this ad in Australia is that the "bloody" is superfluous to the slogan. "Where the hell are ya?" <<- perhaps... "Where the bloody hell are ya?" <<- who would actually EVER say that? No one. Because it's an unnecessary word added to the sentence that has no purpose other than to make us sound I dunno..."laid back" or whatever, it doesn't quite fit, it doesn't flow, and it just sounds ridiculous.
I guess the marketting ploy worked however, since it attracted so much attention.

What time is Little Britain aired there though? Maybe it's because ads like this are meant to be able to be shown all the time. My two year old niece said bloody hell last night and my sister wasn't too happy. I like the ad though.

i say it as well... or where the hell are ya, or where the * insert other expletitive here* are ya?? but thats just me. Most people i know say where the hell are ya to people. I think that they are being rediculous, bloody is used in so many english comedies, and well, did someone else here that a influential person to do with the board of people who made this decision quit just days before?? or am i hearing little porkies again???
Aussies are potrayed as laid back and easy going. There are misconceptions but none of them are potrayed in any ads ( except for the bundaberg rum drop bear ad heheheh) except around here. Most misconceptions people have about aussies date back years, ie so many coutries assume we are uncivilised cos they know nothing about us, think we ride kanagroos, etc etc all that rediculous rubbish that mainly americans seem to think.... maybe we need to air the ad in America? or has that already happened?

I jsut went to the website!!! www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.comI actually think the ad is really well done.... It cracked me up when i saw it.... the use of cliches is actually really cool...Silverton Hotel.. Uluru, Great Barrier Reef, Opera House.... The red centre.... everywhere but the opera house on that list i have never been to and want to, my parents went and loved it! If anyone doesnt know, the Silverton Hotel was in Mad Max. they have a replica of the car used in the movie parked outside it. if u want a pic PM me. The pic includes a yellow 2002 cv8 Monaro as well.... hehe! What do others think of the actual ad ( as apposed to the use of the word bloody in it...)
