You can get more with a kind word and a 2 x 4, than you can with just a kind word :)

Yeah he does a few times, they showed it on the news the other night. SOme radio stations are telling people in Oz to dowload and email it to people in England just to stick it up the people who banned it.

They stupidly ban ads here based on a minority.
If the Advertising Standards Authority gets a certina number of complaints (not sure how many) about an Ad, then it can have it pulled from TV.
I can't see any reason why this couldn't be shown throughout most of the day!
I'll try watching the ad again at somepoint. I could get the sound but no picture

but if they bleep the word out doesn't it make it seem like we've used a naughtier word? then everyone will think we're really rude. Or did they only bleep out sections of the word? like 'where the b----- hell are you?' and i do say that actually. that and, 'take ya bloody time, why don'tya?'

i say it as well... or where the hell are ya Well, I was talking specifically about "Where the bloody hell are ya?" Sorry if all you guys do say it with the superfluous "bloody" in it, all I meant was that in my experience through life I have never, ever heard it said like that. Where the hell are ya is said a lot. Without the "bloody". The ad is beautiful, because it's got to be - they're trying to attract people to the country! And it is a beautiful country, I'm not saying it's not. It wouldn't do so well if they showed scenes of riots, roadkill, hoon lappers, or any scenes from the Gold Coast night life (ie, 'the slops')...

There is the funniest song based on the ad if you're making a postcard...

i was having one of those rare experiences earlier, when i think. and the thought was: maybe i dont see the problem with the Ad because i myself swear quite regularly. i dont say Bloody so often but i do use much colourful words.
and this doesnt mean that swear words dont still have an impact on me. i think that in the right context it doesnt matter what word you say exactly, its how you say it.
"where the Bloody hell are ya." (i got to hear that line on the news -bleeped of course) the way its said isnt exactly awful. i think something like 'that child is a bloody moron' or 'i could kill my bloody postman' with the context its in, yes it is offencive. but where the bloody hell are ya, im sorry. That just isnt offensive to me, regaurdless of what peope might think of us Aussies afterward.

I was at the bus stop today, and this older lady asked me about the buses and i said the other bus accross the road had gone, but not the one that we were waiting for and she said " where thehell is it... where th bloody hell is it ??" and giggled and this woman was atleast 70. she then started a conversation bout the ad and said it was rediculous that those silly english thought it was something that was rude etc.... commenting on how rediculous it was and how funny the ad actually was and it was a good thing.
But then the silly woman asked me if i was daughter of a recently deceased member of our local council ( ironicness is the girl in question has the same name as me)....I dont even look like her lol... ahh well:P

as DO said: "They stupidly ban ads here based on a minority." and i think that many people woul actually enjoy it.
i kinda feel sorry for the people who made the Ad. all that effort and then it cant even be shown?? how dissapointing!

Yeah, but that's because it's a different language, so the direct translation might be weird, or more offensive.
But really, I read somewhere, 'if they can play this ad in Utah, why is it so offensive to the British?' Which is true. You'd expect the bible-belt states of the US to be the first to whine about it.

i doubt it would happen here in ireland. in the last few yrs tv and film standards have dropped, esp. film. too much i think. it was probably on the irish news but i was too busy with college so i dont no plus our tv arial connection is broken so no tv. iv been watching lots of DVDs though. lots of ppl use bad language in this country. they use some of them casually as adjectives just like any other adjective, they also get used offensively in aggressive situations. no-one would think much of someone using bloody in this country.

Youre Irish? true?
and i guess youve just proved the point that in different cultures the same word can have a different impact.
