I've hurt my ankle playing netball last night and it hurt last night but I was just able to drive home and get up to my third floor apartment. Unfortunately, it hurts A LOT more now and I'm stuck three floors up. It took me half an hour to get from my bedroom to the computer. Gah! I need to get out! Not happy Jan! Eeeps! Sounds nasty. Unfortunately the best thing you can do is probably to rest it. At least you have the comp; hours of fun and socialising! You did so, so well to get as far as you did! Must've hurt muchly - don't think I could've done it! I had a bit of an accident last Fri: I was giving my friend a piggy back (*ahem*slightly inhebriated*ahem*) and over balanced and I pretty much headbutted the road. My nose is still rather black and swollen and I've a big gash on my forehead, but the grazes on my knees and arms have gone Funny thing is, my glasses didn't even break! Think they were the thing that stopped my nose being broken. Least we'll remember our last night of term at uni though ;D

OMG! you headbutted the road! Ouch! funny but ouch, lol. Glasses are amazing, mine spent two months between my bed slats and my mattress and only have a little teeny scratch Unfortunately the scratch is right in front of my right eye, a little annoying, but still tiny.

our idiot minister for justice wanted to make our police force armed a few months ago. he also wanted to make it so gardai (police) could stop u and take a photo of u whenever they wanted without giving an explanation why. AF i dont kno enough bout the AUS political structure to kno what that first bit means. that bit about the police opening fire on the crowd is f**ked up. The Senate committees (Kayt or Flit or someone else can correct me if I go wrong here) review a range of bills according to policy area (i.e. Immigration, Industrial Relations, Health, Education etc.) and then make recommendations as to whether there should be any changes. They are made up of members from several of the Senate parties. Recently, some reports on government bills have been highly critical of the government, and obviously this has not gone down well. The cutting of the numbers means there will be less policy areas for the Senate to cover, and the fact that a government member will chair each one means that future reports will most likely not be as critical as before. I should point out that the wording of the bill doesn't directly say that troops can open fire on protesters. The wording is that a member of the Defence Force may not do anything that harms an individual UNLESS it is to protect "critical infrastructure" (the government decides what this is). If the Defence Force member does need to use violence, it should be no more than the situation requires. You can understand that this is very vague and is open to interpretation - what the government considers to be reasonable may not be what others think. But it does not rule out arms use if deemed necessary, even if it doesn't mention it. Ireland is still under a Fianna Fail majority, correct? Tell me, is this unwavering loyalty to this party in any way related to the fact that Eamon de Valera was a key member? I've heard that some vote FF because a sense of nostalgia or as a mark of respect for de Valera, even though Bertie Ahern is, uh, not a worthy successor.

probably is. i dont kno much bout politics recently. not having a working tv doesnt help. fianna fail has been one of the strongest parties for the last few decades. a lot of ppl think he's brialliant and some think he's the contrary. ppl are fairly devided in their attitudes bout him. its usually either one or the other. no half way. and its something politically minded ppl could very easily start arguing strongly bout. one thing i dont understand about devalera is why he gave michael collins and the other ppl he sent over to england the power to sign the treaty if he didnt want them to. fine fail and fine gael have traditionally been the two strongest parties. i dont think its so much because of a nostalgia as it is parents telling their children who to vote for and how brilliant a party is. i think it started of as nostalgia but for most voting ppl of today it isnt because of thier own first hand experience, its because of what theyve been told by their parents. charlie haughie died recently. lots of ppl think he's great too and some think he's awful cos of what he did with stealing all that money. if i voted for a politician cos of which partie he was id vote green partie. incidentally theyre becoming more popular. YAY. there is a politician called joe higgins whom i have a lot of respect for. unfortunately i cant vote for him cos he's in a diff constituency. he is the leader of the socialist party. i dont care bout the socialist party much either way but i think joe higgins is brilliant.

Ahem. This isn't pretty.
YOU STUPID IDIOTIC REFEREE! HOW THE HELL WAS THAT WORTHY OF A PENALTY? I WANT TO HIT HIM SO BADLY! OH THE BLOODY HEARTWRENCHING DRAMA. Poor Lucas Neill, he was absolutely amazing in all the matches, and then to have a referee decision go against him like that.
I know, the ref also sent off an Italian player with a red card that wasn't deserved either, so I shouldn't be too self righteous, but it was like 10 seconds away from the end of injury time. I'm just crushed, I spend 90 minutes reminding myself we were up against the mighty Azurri and we had little to no chance, even 1 man up and then in the final dying minutes I thought, "ohmygod ohmygod!" To have it crash down around you like that is just painful.
I think i'll start worrying about less trivial matters than a soccer game from now on, I feel foolish to let something like a soccer game get to me.

Yes, it's just a game. And not a particularly exciting one at that. I wasn't sure it was a penalty either, but then I don't know the intricacies of soccer. My line is "soccer is for wusses anyway". ;D Well, really! Where else would players take a dive and clutch their shins as though they've been shot when obviously nothing serious has happened? That was it for another four years - back to AFL!

Well, it was a largely defensive match. The Italians have a long tradition of playing really great defensive football, partly because one of their most used strategies is to score early on in the game and then lock down their defense and protect their lead. It was a good match, but not a thrilling one. Should have watched Mexico vs Argentina for that, now there was some tension filled football. Heh. Yeah, football gets that tag alot from its detractors. I suppose my line on the matter is "AFL and Rugby are for thugs" which is why it doesn't interest me as much. And yeah, you're right that Australian interest is going to wane. But there's still a while yet to savour the game. And I'm still watching it for the Germans, the Argentinians (who are meeting up next, woe!) and pretty much anyone who isn't Brazil. GO ANYONE WHO ISN'T BRAZIL! OR ITALY! Yay for forming enduring grudges!

Oh, there are undoubtedly some thuggish players in AFL, and certainly in rugby. But soccer has them too - *cough Ronaldo cough*. My gripe with the game remains that decisions like the penalty one last night often determine the outcome rather than the actual players, and still having a 0 - 0 scoreline after 90 mins really sucks. At least with AFL you know there'll be a number of goals kicked.

Yep, I wholeheartedly agree!!!! (although I still HATE to see Australia lose at ANYTHING!!!). And I love AFL... but NOT the western Bulldogs! No offence to those who happen to follow them but... *controls self*. I am also peed off that I can barely get on the Internet at all during the holidays and am using up my grandparents' credit at present just being here... I mean what planet do my parents live on?! This is the twenty-first blooming century AND WE DON'T HAVE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted the Aussies to win too, but when it comes down to it AFL is more exciting, is more Aussie and is a lot less frustrating GO YOU CROWS!!!

Oh yeah, soccer has it's thugs too. But I suppose when I say that AFL is for thugs, I mean the style of play is more physical and 'thuggish' than soccer, which seems to be a lot more about dodging the other players. But it's pretty unlikely that any competitve sport out there is going to be free of brattish, immature idiots. Just looks at the Portugal Netherlands game the night before. Ah well, at least now I can watch my World Cup without feeling guilty at being part of the patriotism juggernaut our media was pushing so fervently. I usually find sports more entertaining and fun when we're not participating. Odd.

Why don't people make clothes that fit me?! I'm not fat by any definition, yet Roxy's "extra-large" shorts won't look at me. I had to buy boys shorts. I've lost a bit of weight, but in the wrong places, so my chest is now two sizes smaller than my hips. I now can't get a bikini to fit, and I bought a lovely dress from ebay which arrived last night and fits beautifully over my hips but gapes at the top so that any bra I wear under it will show, but if I don't wear a bra *I* will show! As always when I buy dresses, I'm going to have to spend the weekend taking it in.

That isn't the problem. It's because it's so loose around the chest, it sits quite low, so that the back of my bra will show. Plus it's a halterneck, so I can't get a backless bra to solve the problem. I have one of those stick-on strapless&backless ones, but it's really uncomfortable, it tends to fall off if I get hot, and I suspect it doesn't actually *support* anything, so what's the point?
Normally I don't have this problem because I make my own clothes to fit me, but I don't have a sewing machine, or much free time, out here, so have to deal with standard sizing - when I'm definitely not a standard size!

I know what you mean Kangaruth, I have the same problem with pants. If they fit my thighs they're way to big for my waste, if they fit my waste then they're too tight on my thighs. And don't even get me started on bras, it turns out in the last two months my number has gone down three sizes and my letter has gone up one. What the? I mean, TWO MONTHS! I hate clothes shopping, grrr.

OK, what about a halterneck bra? That would solve one problem. You could also just adjust the halter part of the dress somehow. if the straps are shorter then it will sit closer to you.
Don't worry, i have a problem with clothes fitting me as well. There seems to be no standard size for mens clothes. Some shops i go into, a large fits, another shop would be extra large, and in another extra large would be too small. Its not fair!

Argh. My computer doesn't want to play nice! It keeps crashing on me. It took me ten minutes to get onto this site. I don't think it likes me. Oh well. It will just have to learn to follow orders! And I totally agree. It seems to me that clothes I like never seem to fit. It took me four months to find a pair of jeans that I liked and that fit in all the right places.

That happened to me with MSN. One minute in signed on and the next in offline. AGH!!
Will their be no mercy??
And about the whole Bra thing, I find that stapless ones fall down, and I cant wear halterneck bra's cause I hate bikinis and they're just like them. Why did anyone invent them in the first place? Can't our boobs just be free??
Im starting a campaign...support braless woman. yay who will join me?

I don't think you have to wear a bra if you don't want to. But a properly fitting bra that gives you the proper support will help prevent problems in the future - not least of all saggy boobs! The ligaments and tissues in your breasts are very delicate, and once they stretch they aren't going back! It's also why you should get a full-support high-impact sports bra for excercise.
One day I'm going to learn how to make my own underwear, as well as outer clothes. I've made a few corsets, but they aren't really practical, and apparently well-fitting bras are much more difficult to make!

and apparently well-fitting bras are much more difficult to make! I find well-fitting bras are nigh impossible to buy *grumbles about there not being easily obtained smaller than A-cup sizes* Normally I just give-up and buy whatevers available - they certainly don't do anything, but they come in pretty colours Arghh, I hate doing full-time lab work. I have discovered how lab workers can sit around all day but not get fat - they don't eat! It's so frustrating. I start before 9, by 11 I'm hungry, but I often can't have my lunch-break until 2:30 -3ish and even then it's a quick 10-15 mins at the most, so by when I leave at 6 I'm starving. And my 10-15 min break is the longest break out of everyone in the lab! Actually, I love most of the work, I just wish it wasn't as full on (and that I could eat ) I also wish that I wouldn't name and get attached to things that will be killed *sobs* poor blobby and cloudy
