I've lost my glasses! I don't need them all the time but I need them to see the computer properly and to see the score at the footy. I'm going to the footy tomorrow, and I need my glasses! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

That sucks. And it's going to be such an interesting match. Found the glasses yet? I have two pairs, so there's always one somewhere. Of course, I'd much rather not wear them at all (I got them a couple of years ago and still have some problems with the psychological side of it), but for long-distances *sigh*. At least they're titanium-framed ... My rant? Another political one: On The Religion Report (Radio National) last week, the presentor was discussing a quirky clause in the new IR laws which allows employers who are members of a religion which does not believe in trade unions to deny their employees the right to join a union (and to refuse to employ union members). This religion (or rather, a secretive sect) is called "Exclusive Brethren". They claim that trade unions disrupt the "master and servant" relation that employers and employees should have according to the spirit of the Bible. I thought we had separation of church and state in this country. I thought Costello advocates the idea that everyone lives under the same laws. Ah, hang on - Exclusive Brethren donated thousands of dollars to the Federal Liberal Party and paid for viciously anti-Green advertisements during the Tasmania state election campaign. I suppose you have to reward your friends somehow.

That's HORRIBLE! Gah! It took workers so long to painfully acquire all those rights. I can't believe they're being taken away this easily and ruthlessly. It's bad enough when employers make it deliberately hard or hazardous for employees to join unions. It makes me think wistfully of the days when I was totally and blissfully unaware of current events. I don't want to stick my head back in the sand, though.
On a more frivolous note, what is it with padded bras? I went bra shopping yesterday and it seems that all but about five percent are ridiculously padded. I refuse to believe that 95 percent of women want bigger breasts. I don't, and mine are small. I occasionally look at people with gorgeous cleavage and feel wistful, but padding really isn't a substitute. It's weird and distorts the nice breast shape, besides feeling all unnatural and wrong. There is a huge difference between the softness of breasts and the softness of stiffened foam and I for one don't like it. Sure, they come in useful occasionally, when you want to wear a particular top or whatever, but permanently? Every day with every outfit? Pft.

I agree. And I am currently annoyed, because my favorite commedians have split to go solo, or something! Lano & Woodley are now.....Lano and Woodley! The duo are no more! I am sad, as I thought they worked so well together. Still, on a brighter note.....I wore Franks hat and said 'Don't call me Frankly!', something I've always wanted to do. But that is no compensation for all tha laughs I've missed out on in the future. They've made their own T.V. show, traveled with it overseas, made at least one C.D., and countless shows over the past 20 years, and now they are no more. Me:

p.s. My glasses are stil missing in action Under your bed? On your head (hey, it happens!)? So I take it you couldn't see too much of the footy yesterday (not that you would have wanted to ). Spent Saturday night at the Mitre Tavern (Melbourne) for my brother's 21st. Was good, especially catching up with some people I hadn't seen a while and meeting some of my brother's friends who were dying to meet me (haha, they must have been disappointed ). My random rant is that it's all very well to ban smoking on train and tram platforms, but if no one polices it, and there aren't any NO SMOKING YOU LOSERS signs, no one takes any notice either.

I hate it when I'm stuck standing next to a smoker, especially when they're not allowed to do it there! It's so rude and just really mean! I hate it when people smoke at the footy and think no one will notice, hello! You are surrounded by 45000 people (10000 if it's a Port game, lol)! Someone is going to notice and if it's me I'm not going to be all polite about it and let you get away with it! Unless ofcourse you're one of those scary supporters! You footy people all know the people I'm talking about Just checked my head for my glasses and nope, not there better not be considering they've been missing for three days now. I'm sure they MUST be under my bed! I've checked four times though so I'm thinking they must not be, but they have to be!!!

Oh my goodness, yes, AF! It's frustrating me no end. What's the point of having this law if nobody knows about it anyway? Several times in the last few weeks, I've found myself sitting next to someone who's suddenly decided to smoke and I've thought about telling them about the law... but how can I prove it when there's no signage or anything to back it up? You'd think if the government was going to make this law then they'd think about how to enforce it. Fair enough, you can't exactly pay to have a police officer sitting at every train station and bus-stop, but can't you have signs? At least then, I could point to the sign and say: Stop taking my rights away and breaking the law at the same time, dammit. But for now, it's just incredibly frustrating. Good luck with the hunt for your glasses, Squirt. I'm one of those people who's spent half an hour looking for their glasses only to find I was wearing them the whole time...

AF - I've heard of that "Exclusive Bretheran" lot. They were talking about them on Hack on JJJ a few weeks ago. The interesting hypocracy is that they don't believe in voting. Yet they send out pamphlets advising the rest of Tasmania how to vote.
Weird. After I heard about them on Hack, I went and investigated them. Apparently, they don't believe in technology, specifically in their schooling systems (so, kids growing up knowing nothing about computers, not using movies / tv as resources, etc) and many other things...however, I found this out on their web site.
...What the?!

Well, maybe if you didn't signal right people might be able to figure out you're going to turn left, you stupid woman!
Grrr...
She nearly kills me and it's MY fault. Idiot.

First and foremost: Firefox: Its enought to make you think we need a Bill of Rights so we can be protected against legislation. However even more useful would be a citizenship that was not apathetic about politics. As for padded bras they do have one good use which however probably doesn't apply to you: when I am sitting next to one of my kids and they want to get off the lounge they always elbow me in the breast for leverage. It definatelky hurts less when i am wearing a padded bra. Squirt i really do hope you have your glasses by now. It is truly miserable news that Lano and Woodley are no longer Lano and Woodley grrrr to smokers. I'll never forget watching a band playing one night and seeing this obviously pregnant woman sucking on a ciggy while proudly showing her friends pictures of her ultr-sound. That has to be the irony of the century. As for Brethren, I've had quite a bit to do with them and none of it has been positive. At our old house their church was behind us. They used to throw rubish over our fence, once they threw glass over the fence while i sat out there with my baby and they would terrorise my dog and throw things at her and poke her face with sticks. They ahve no regard for other people and they are all interbred because they are not aloud to marry outside their religion the physical evidence of this being that they seriously all look like brothers and sisters. I wish I was joking but I'm not. they all look the same! Kayt, I am really glad you escaped being run over and am very cranky at that silly woman

A few in my genetics class cheated in their exam but our wonderfully nice lecturer believes it was a computer error We had a 2-hour internet exam to do (which was basically impossible-that's another rant those who did it by the rules didn't even finish all the questions!) and some people logged in, printed out the questions, logged out, had the whole bloody weekend to find answers, then logged back in to finish the exam AND the lecturer thinks the times were all stuffed up because of a computer fault and was appologizing for it in our lecture! I'm doubly peeved off because it's the first exam I've ever failed (it's only worth 10%, but still.. ) and I failed because I ran out of time and couldn't attempt all the questions *stomps off*

I wish I was joking but I'm not. they all look the same! I wish we didn't have compulsory voting. That way, those who weren't interested would just stay home. I believe one of the main reasons Howard is still PM is that people went to the polling booth and thought "well, I'm okay, so why bother changing government?" Or they voted Liberal because their friends/family did. Or out of fear, generated by the "OOOH REFUGEES MIGHT BE TERRORISTS" campaign. It seems to be a rule that those who make the most noise about their religion are often the people who don't live according to their religious laws. Those sects are the worst - they believe everyone else is evil scum who will be eradicated from the Earth when Christ/Whoever returns. Uh-huh.

I do not believe that the answer lies in making voting optional. When voting is optional huge amounts of money have to be spent just to convince people they should vote at all. This means that you need to be very rich even to stand as a candidate.
I believe the key lies in good civics education at school; to fight against political apathy, which is the biggest threat to democracy.

True, to an extent. But when people are forced to do something they don't want to, they vote apathetically, and usually to keep the status quo. I'd rather give people the freedom not to vote, so that voting becomes something exciting and not a duty. Education is important, but the problem there is that young people often think politics is boring and uncool - isn't it the case that most people are not politically active/interested until they head towards their thirties (and have to pay tax, etc.)? I'm not sure education at a younger age will necessarily reverse this trend.
For example, at a uni lecture, we were asked if we belonged to a political party. Out of the fifty or so people there, I was the only one who did. And that was in the Netherlands, where politics and current events is a strong part of the educational system.
Probably the most crucial factor is your family; my parents were interested (if not involved), and it was this interest that encouraged me to explore and extend my knowledge in this field.
Oh, and I hate Libertarians.

That’s awful to hear about your glasses, Squirt. I usually loose my glasses at lest 5 times a day -which I find them 5 minutes later. The longest time I lost my glasses was few days, and being short sighted, let’s just say I need my glasses to be able to find them! ;D
Lately I have not been feeling well. But that is the least of my worries. What I am worried about is that I have just stared a new job [at Woolworths], and being sick, I had to take a few days off. This is my first job, so I’m a bit worried/paranoid that they may want to fire me. I mean, I’m not actually feeling sick, just vomiting all the time. And what annoys me is that it is rather unpredictable. One day I might feel fine and the next… Whamo! I’m sick again. (I think I see a pattern here. Monday I was sick, Tuesday I was fine, Today I’m sick... When will it ever end!) I know my employers can’t fire me because I’m not feeling too well, but I still feel bad at taking a few days off. And being a casual employee, I don’t get stable job. But hey, with the new Work Choices I guess nobody does.
And so, tomorrow I have work…

GAH! I am SICK of people NOT LOOKING AT WHAT THEY'RE DOING when they're INSTALLING INVENTOR!!!!!!!!
I've had so many calls from people who've just put in the CD and gone "next - next - next - next -next, oh good, it's installed".
Then they call and ask me why their templates are all in imperial (inches) standards. Me: "Did you select "ISO -> Metric" when you were installing?" Client: "No" WHY NOT?! IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FRIKKIN' FACE WHEN YOU INSTALL!
So I'm making them pay. I spend the next 20 minutes on the phone with them explaining they have to copy over their metric templates into the default directory, delete the existing imperial ones, then rename their metric ones so Inventor thinks they're the default ones. Not a big drama, but most of the people who've done this have no idea how to copy / paste files, let alone rename them in different directories. My boss reckons I should be nice and write a batch file that'll do it for them, but I want to MAKE these SUCKERS pay for NOT READING ANYTHING WHEN THEY INSTALL!!! JUST OPEN YOUR EYES, PEOPLES!!

I feel your pain. Perhaps we could start our own football thread? Middlesbrough did really well in the UEFA Cup last week. (Come on 'Boro! ;D) Or perhaps talk about Extreme Ironing, as apparently we're quite good at that...
Squirt, I'm one of those people who walks round looking for their glasses and they're on my head. Usually happens when I'm running late and waste 15 min I didn't need to I hope your specs turn up soon!
Aw Kat, I hope you're feeling better soon! Try not to worry too much about work - I'm sure they're not thinking about it half as much as you are. Thing is, it's better for you to be off then being ill on customers or passing it on to other members of staff!
