Just like to rant that I've decided to do something relatively dramatic with regards to my work that I'd never considered doing before. As I've mentioned, I work as a freelance translator for a semi-university in the Netherlands. They haven't paid me since January and owe me around 1500 euros ($2500 over here). I've contacted them several times about it, and though they claim to have handed in the request for payment and everything else, it still hasn't been deposited on my Dutch bank account. Therefore, I am basically holding hostage the pieces of translation they have sent me recently. I've decided to do them at my own pace, instead of as quickly as possible, as I've always done, and then send them away when I feel like it. It makes me feel a bit mean, but it seems that's the only way I'll ever get paid for all the work I've done in the past few months. Good on you, good Arctic Firefox. If they're not prepared to pay you for your work, then they shouldn't expect to receive it in a timely manner, or at all! I hope it works and you get the money that is owed to you. |

Here I am, trying to do my homework like a good little girl, and there is a friggin' huge fly buzzing the crap out of me! And not only that (because I wouldn't mind if it just sat there buzzing away quietly until it died) it decides to buzz around me! Around and around and around and around ... And then it stops on my homework, and I see it rubbing its puny little hands together and dropping who knows what all over my sheet, so i shoo it away and then it takes up its favourite pastime of circling me ... and it all starts over again. I wish I had a fly swatter ... or perhaps a landmine to blast the creature back to hell ...
Oh dear, it seems to be staring at me from the printer

Update on my situation: the money should be deposited on my bank before the end of the week. My contact still had to go down to the financial services and demand that they processed my payment immediately because they were planning to wait until next month. Lazy.  I certainly won't miss translating for them ... hopefully I can leave before the end of the year. |

I can hardly believe it but... I found my glasses! I lost them at the very beginning of April and they suddenly turn up between the base of my bed and my mattress. Not somewhere I usually store things. Unfortunately, as they've been squished under my mattress for the last two months they're all scratched. Does anyone know if there is any way of removing scratches from prescription glasses? Unfortunately the scratches are right in the middle of the right lense. It's a pain in the behind actually, but I'm so happy that I can see my television and computer screen again that I dont really care that much!

Gah! I'm on annual leave at the moment. I officially ended my leave yesterday but my first shift isnt until Wednesday. Or so I thought! I stayed up really late last night reading because I thought I had nothing to do today, til about 3 - 4am. At 7 o' clock this morning I got a phone call saying that I was meant to be at work half an hour ago! We have the same shifts every fortnight. Someone has decided to just put my name in there without even informing me! I'm on leave! How am I meant to know that some idiot has forced me into a shift. So yeah, the point of this rant is that I managed three hours of sleep last night, had a horrible shift at work because I was half an hour behind the whole time and now I have to go and do more work (GRRRRRR!) and then play a game of netball. I'm sick too  Work sucks! I wanna retire now! So, sickness + evil staff + lack of sleep + horrible/tiring shift + netball = one grumpy Jesca! |

technically my leave ended the day before the forced me to work but they didnt tell me I was working so I thought I'd have more time off than i did Now I'm sick again from lack of sleep so they have to replace me for three shifts. Karma! |

I've hurt my ankle playing netball last night and it hurt last night but I was just able to drive home and get up to my third floor apartment. Unfortunately, it hurts A LOT more now and I'm stuck three floors up. It took me half an hour to get from my bedroom to the computer. Gah! I need to get out! Not happy Jan!

get some forzen peas (or similar) wrap them in a towel and keep them on your ankle for a while. It'll help stop the swelling. Also have a ot bath later and that should bring out any bruising and allow your ankle to heal faster

Chuck some ice on it (frozen peas are good as the Dark Antelope One suggests), but wrap it in a damp towel, that makes it work even better
stick a bandage of some description on it
and try to keep it raised higher than your heart...

Did all of that and its slowly getting better! I even managed to get out of my apartment  I just couldnt get back up until tonight, lol. It's all purple now Atleast people know I'm not faking it though! |

Haven't ranted here for a while ... Why oh why do we allow the Howard government to get away with the implementation of new laws and regulations which lead us slowly into a police state? For example, the government has just cut the number of Senate committees from 16 to 10, and ordered that all of them must be chaired by a government senator. And presumably, not one of the more rebellious ones. As if that weren't enough of a curb on democracy, it appears that while people were fussing about AWB, a bill was passed allowing the Prime Minister to order troops/police to open fire on demonstrators who "threaten" a government building or something similar. And don't get me started on the new Migration Law that, fortunately, is having problems passing parliament. If the Coalition wins the next election, I shudder to think what they'll pass next. |

our idiot minister for justice wanted to make our police force armed a few months ago. he also wanted to make it so gardai (police) could stop u and take a photo of u whenever they wanted without giving an explanation why. AF i dont kno enough bout the AUS political structure to kno what that first bit means. that bit about the police opening fire on the crowd is f**ked up.
