I don't know if any of you have heard of this yet, but a young girl died last night in victoria on a school camp when a gum tree branch fell on her tent.
are these people idiots??!!!! It's the second time in less than two years that this has happened on a school camp, and i am so p!ssed off by it. Needless pointless deaths. What were those girls doing camping under a gum tree?? WHAT?!!!!! They're called WIDOWMAKERS for a REASON especially during a wind strom
God, i can't BELIEVE that this happened. It shouldn't, it's a needless pointless death, and i can't believe the teachers didn't know better. And if they didn't then why are they taking their students on a camp when they don't have basic camping skills. It's the one thing i drill into my girls before i take them camping. How to find the best place to pitch a tent, and in Australia, you pitch a tent under a gum tree, you take your life into your hands. Esp. during drought. Gum trees are designed to drop branches at will. They can't provide water to a branch, it goes, there's high winds and they need to make themselves less of a target for that, they drop a branch.
Like what happened here.
That is just so disgusting. Common bloody sense would have saved that child's life. And that p!sses me off beyond belief. A perfectly good life wasted over such a stupid reason.
There's a warning to you all now, if you didn't know before, don't ever camp under gum trees, it might be nice to have the shade on your tent, but it's a death trap. you can't trust gum trees. It's another reason why you never climb them as well.
Stupid waste of a life

Oh, thats terrible! The poor girls family. Yes, we seem to be lacking in common sense these days. That just makes me sad.

That is terrible! The teachers & school should be held accountable!
I never knew that about gum trees though!

I told my mum last night and she said it had happened a couple of months ago too. Thats just really irresponsible and stupid! Yes Dark One, they should be held accountable!

But wasn't it a combination of the gum tree and the gale-force winds? It doesn't change the fact that the tents probably shouldn't be right under trees like that, but the wind was a huge factor. It was bad enough in Melbourne, but in the North East and the East, it was even worse. In some cases, power was cut off for over twelve hours. More reading, if anyone is interested.

That pic is more evidence. Look at the scrub they're camping in. This time of year is always a wind threat. They were probably camping in dome tents too (pliable structure) right tent for wind, because they are built to be able to make themselves not be a target, and so get ripped out and go rolling (don't laugh, has happened to me before) but look at the area, all trees. Thick, old, and suffering from drought. If they had to camp there, they should have used Ridge tents with hard metal frames, or bell tents. but i bet you she was in a dome, and that provides no protection. I've camped out in a storm like that before (in Vic too) and a branch from a gum was knocked off near out campsite, if we had gone for the prettier spot, one of us would have been killed too. It's not really a freak accident as they say, it's a lack of common sense. and that's what irritate me

Im going to rant about stupid doctors.
OK, Ive been sick for months and months and months and going on a year now, and I havent been to school since the start of term (which was like 2 MONTHS AGO) and the stupid evil, MORON of a physician did an echo-cardiagram of my heart, put me in hospital, sent me up to Perth to give me an MRI, Ive had a CT scan and about a MILLION bloodtests (which is bad, coz I have a terrible needle phobia and freak out whenever the word "needle" is mentioned. But I had one today without the Emla patches! They make it go numb, but I fainted so....) and nothing has shown up, so the stupid person has said "Well, it cant be Chronic Fatigue because her sleeping patterns wrong, its just depression"( at which Mum said "So what can we do about that?" and he goes "Excercise" and walks away!). My sleeping pattern is not what he thinks it is!! I tried to explain my sleeping pattern but he interrupted me and talked over the top of me. And its not depression either because Ive had depression before and I know what it feels like and its not that at all! So Im supposed to excerise when its an effort to have a shower!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! a;sldkjfa;sldihgawelfoijkfaj;awjpjpaohdflaskdpOEIJRF;A Excuse me but I just hit the keyboard.
So that be my rant. And just to add to it, my so called friend thinks Im faking it and wont talk to me anymore. jalsdjfawlekijgpo aisdm;sfwjod;ldawdm[pd'DM

*grugs* more moronic calls today i take it? Kindof and indeed, only I'm training the moron so instead of being able to hang up the phone, I've got 3 full days with him (and 5 other lovely people who are enthusiastic about Inventor). *sigh* speaking of which, better go upstairs and set up.

Lol, are you a doctor Turks? I never knew that. Second opinions sound great, except we've already tried second ones, we're kinda up to 4th and 5th opinions...Mums gonna ring up out doctor in QLD (the one we used to go too). He was alright, but I knew him from school, coz I used to go out with his son.....so telling him all my medical problems then having him ask "How are you and Danny going, Lauren?" is kinda off-putting....

Although trivial compared to above rants.... i'm sooooooooo bored. But not my usual bordom... this time im bored with doing my a$signments. I briefly went to moonfair and it was a baaaaad idea. Now ive sampled a cure to my boredom but am unable to participate thanks to having major assignments due at the rate of 1 per week. I'm slowly sinking under a pile of paper and books...
the current 1 is due friday but must finish it 2nite as 2mo i uni from 9 till 4:30 and work from 4:30 till 9, get home at 10 for a shower (cold knowing my luck these past weeks) then put away shopping and eat its like 11:30 and i'm buggered if i can concentrate on the stupid thing...
I hate uni. I hate uni. I hate uni. *clicks heels together 3 times, opens eyes* damn, still at the computer

OK, my friend just messaged me, and tells me that one of my best friends is going out with a complete pr*ck of a guy, whose ambition for a while, along with his best friend, was to cause me as much misery as possible. So, I call up my friend, and because we havent seen each other for ages coz Im sick, she hardly talks at all. Then I ask her why and she says "Well, its kinda hard to talk to you, coz I havent seen you for so long" and I go "yeh, well I havent seen some of my best friends for 3years, and we have longer conversations than when we saw each other every day" and she goes "well Im not that friend am I" and I say "No, apparently not." Then she goes quiet for a while, and then I say "Well, if youre not gonna talk to me Im gonna go coz Ive got better things to do than sit here in silence." And she says "Suit yourself" so I said "Its not me Im suiting, bye" and hungup.
Do I expect too much by asking a little support? I have the same problem with my sister, but I expected Tara to be better. Oh, well. Life goes on I spose.
