well elspeth is always like the one power i dont have is empathy. In a way its like dameon is the one [art she needs to complete her
my thepry: this will be hard for both sides. if she ends up with neither. i truly, and it breaks my heart, believe that dameon will show his love, finnally by sacrificing himself for elf. isnt that a dames thing to do? and she will all realise how he felt and i will get very angry and at the same time touched and once again wish that somehow damoen was real and there were actually men like that.
but jusrt coz i think dames will die doe snot mean she will be with rush. in ashling maruman says something along the lines of " there will be nothing left for u at obernewtyn after ur quest" to me it means she will no longer feel tied to it or that it will be destroyed. whatever happens rushton is inexplicably linked to ober so i feel there will be nothing left between them.
but never fear i am sure swallow will have her * winks*
or gilbet, geez so many guys!

well i figure rushton will always be at ober. he is linked to it, its his heritage and idenity. thus i feel that if ober is destroyed he will go to. tho it does say nothing left for u. which may not indictate the destruction of ober but maybe just of rushto himself or their love.

one thing that has kind a always made me think that rushton an elf are meant for each other, along with all my other reasons, is the fact that she has such a powerful talent and the killing power is perhaps makes her the strongest misfit there is, so its kind of fitting that her partner can match her...but not neccessarily in strength but in mind capacity, because of the mind meld between bond partners im sure it would work better if her partner could handle all her power so...doesnt it fit that rushton having the highest capacity for handling others talents, although he has none of his own, makes him like a perfect opposite for her, they would fit perfectly together..which is what i think IC has been getting at the whole series, so thats why im pretty sure she wont break them up. i mean whats the point of setting all this stuff up then making it all irrelevant..?

...esspess, you're forgetting - that analogy could also be used on Dameon and Elspeth as well, since Elspeth has every talent bar Empathy, and Dameon only has (a very, very strong) Empathy talent. Those two together, talent-wise, would be unstoppable.
Isobelle's making so many references in TKP to Empathy being the most important talent, I'm sure Elspeth will need Dameon's talent in the end more than Rushton's.

yes that is true MIn (truespoken ) and i have also had that thought in mind, which is obviously why IC has purposefully chosen for Elfs two closest companions to have these such powers, but i dont think that either one of rushtons or dameons powers will be "more" important than the other in the final book, i feel they will both be just as prevalent as the other. and you must remember that along with her making many references in TKP to dameons power, she has made just as many if not more throughout the whole series, even from the first time we knew of rushtons power, that it is such a big deal that he has latent powers yet has such a high mind capacity, and not only because he feels lesser because of this is it mentioned, but im sure it is because it will be fairly important. also i believe IC is setting both rushton and dameon up to be much more significant characters, in the more imediate sense, in this book, than what they have been so far, you know, how they are more talked about then seen. i am sure this choice between the two will be as much debated over in elfs mind in the coming book as we are doing here, she will not have an easy choice. as much as both sides of supporters like to talk up their chosen guy more i think it is pretty obvious ( even as much as i want to support rushton) that they are both on fairly equal ground. i am wondering also that if what maruman said about not having anything left at obernewtyn is a reference to the fact that she will, in the end choose neither of the two, kind of like a Frodo thing where she finds herself so changed she doesnt feel like she can live at obernewtyn anymore or be with either of the two. lol it would be funny if she ended up being a gypsy wandering the land, and being swallows lover instead hhhmm well anyway if i were being totally objective in viewing the situation i would probably conclude she is quite equally split between the two... and in saying that i will now leave it for more deliberation over

Oh Miky, I think the same thing! It would be so sad for Dames to sacrifice himself though, I would cry my eyes out
I also agree that Rushton, Elspeth and Dameon together make this 'complete Talent'- they have everything. However, as for the match for Elspeth, I think that Rushton and Elspeth complete each other more so than Dameon and Elspeth. Although, with Dameon and Elspeth they have every Talent, Elspeth herself is still unable to use Dameon's or benefit from it. She still has no empathy herself. Where as, with Rushton, she is able to use that capacity, and in a way they merge together. (That was some bad explaining. I would have thought that out better if it wasn't 2:30 in the morning.)
Ack. The nothing at ober for Elf thing makes me think she's definately going down the Frodo path..maybe some how, like in Scatterlings, she will have learnt things from the past by going on her quest- things that will harm and affect the her world if others learn of them, like..I don't know...plans for building weapon machines or something? and so in order to save everyone she separates herself from them and leaves.
As for nothing left for Elspeth at Obernewtyn..I'm confused now >_< Because I agree, that would include Rushton. However, I'm more for the Frodo theory as well- If she wasn't to end up with Rushton, I don't think she would be with anyone.

But...Elspeth can use Dameon's empathy. She just hasn't yet, because Dameon always had his shield up around her. Elspeth, like anyone else, can be effected / receive empathy waves from any Empath. The only talent that can get through the demon bands is Empathy. Mind capacity won't do you any good against a demon band. The fact that she has no Empathy is more important than anyone's mind capacity. Because, she can feel empathy, when it's used, but can't manipulate it herself. It's going to be needed in the end, and that's why Dameon is the Kasanda blood (but that's an entirely different theory of mine). The mind-capacity talent only comes into use when there's more than one farseeker around, and Rushton can be used as a focus. If it's just Elspeth and Rushton in the end, and they need Empathy, they're stuffed. If it's Elspeth and Dameon in the end, and they need mind capacity, hell they'll delve into their own minds... This is entirely off the topic of who's better for Elspeth, but oh well I agree that it's been made important, but I would strongly disagree that his talent has been made of more importance in the series. Empathy has always been more important than mind capacity, think of the Battlegames and how Miky/Angina were involved in the only events they had a chance of winning - if it hadn't been for Angina, Hannay would have fallen; they would have never won the Song round either. The keeping place was just the only place where it was actually *said* it's the most important talent and why. I'm beginning to think she'll chose no one, too. As fun as this debate is, it really has little / no relevance to the Chronicles message as a whole, it's more the "soap opera love triangle" aspect. I like the Frodo analogy

I agree that it's been made important, but I would strongly disagree that his talent has been made of more importance in the series. disagree with what Min? ;D i never said that either talent was more important than the other infact all i said was that it was possible that IC had mentioned rushtons more...but in saying that it doesnt mean i think that it is more important i was mearly making a statement to match yours about Dames' power being mentioned heaps, 'cause so has rushtons

No point in getting bogged down in technicalities, I thought you were bringing it up because you were disagreeing with my statement how Dameon's talent is more important as a whole. The 'if not more' you wrote caught my eye. It hasn't been mentioned more, it's been glossed over a couple of times. They have discussions about empathy and it's uses in Obernewtyn. Rushton's talent is mentioned occasionally, but never dwelt upon. Though in saying that, you're probably right to say that it will be of some importance as well, otherwise why bother mentioning it at all?

lol well either way i think our little conversation here is a bit off topic...besides i think im just saying stuff for arguements sake, because truly i quite like the empathy talent and agree that it will probably be very important in the coming book and is over all more important...sooo...now we can get back to the point... GO RUSHTON!!!!! *waves flag with rushton face on it* *swoons over Rushton* *kisses Rushtons image on flag * *sighs*

Yeah, I guess Elspeth can use Empathy in that way. I didn't think of that before. The mind-capacity talent only comes into use when there's more than one farseeker around, and Rushton can be used as a focus. Can't the capacity be used when in contact with machines though? I can't remember exactly but didn't Rushton's mind capacity save Elspeth from kinda imploding from the impact of the Zebkrahn machine? I agree that if Empathy is needed and it's only Elf and Rushton, then they're stuffed. But it's the same if Elspeth has to come into contact with another machine like the Zebkrahn, and it's only her and Dames (given I'm remembering correctly about the Zebkrahn part..). Since she'll be dealing with weaponmachines on her quest, I think Rushton's mind capacity will be very important. They'll all have to work together though..It's no help having Elspeth and only one of them. She needs them both to succeed

is anyone else dieing for the sending to resovle this, but secretly sad that this will end? its like the great debate on this site.
i was reading an IC interview and she sed elf will find out dames loves her in a pretty descive way. i have 3 suggestions
1. dames will sacrifice himself ( that would be so sad even for the rush supporters, yet it is so fitting gfor him)
2. dames will tell elf in a very public way and challenge rush. ( like its their bonding and he yells " i object"
3. he leaves ober because he cant stand the pain
what do u think? all i know is i shall be eagerly awaiting the part in the sending when this is all revealed.
*cant help myself* GO DAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

true that Arien... why does elf have to choose between the two anyway it would be so much more convenient if the three of them just decided that they should all just bond together and be a triple instead of a couple...they would be a force to be reckoned with then between them they would have every power (not including the variations, but not like that'd make a difference). or if Rushton and dames were both fighting over elf and deciding who was better and came to the conclusion that together they were the pefect man...so the three of them lived happily ever after ....hehehe wouldnt it be funny if at the end there was nothing left for Elf because Dames and Rushton decided that they were sick of elf and didnt want her anymore, and that they were better for each other... ;D ;D

i was reading an IC interview and she sed elf will find out dames loves her in a pretty descive way. OOOH!!! Where did you read that? Arien - I see what you mean. Rushton was there when she was battling the Zeb and he was helping her somehow. I got the impression that she was only drawing energy from him, though I'm not sure, I'm going to have to re-read that section and come back to this. If she's only drawing energy from him...well, she could draw enegry from anyone.

It would be nice if everyone thought that way. Alternatively, IC could extend the Chronicles for another book just to properly work out this love triangle if she wanted to!

*gets up off floor and settles back into chair* Sorry, just recovering from esspess's comment about Rush and dames being right for eachother!! ;D There are good points for both sides but I voted Rushton *mexican waves* because i think i was in love with him before Elspeth was. But...that's not what this thread is about!! It's normal for us to have crushes on Rushton from the first moment he appears, because he seems so gorgeous-and-mysterious. But think about his *real character*! He's so awful to Dameon, and he's so overprotective and sulky to Elf! Just think about it! He's not a nice/good person, he's just a *person*, with faults like anyone else, that's what makes Rushton, and Dameon, and Elspeth, such great characters. They seem real.
The question is "who is best for Elf", though. The slightly-selfish egotistical insecure master of Obernewtyn? Or the blind, selfless, loving, caring empath guildmaster, whom everyone refers to as "Rushton's conscience"? If it weren't for Dameon hanging around, Rushton would probably be even worse than he already is!
So, this isn't about who you think is the hottest - Because that's already been established. Matty won the Obernewtyn Bachelor of the Year, hands down, and we had the poll to prove it ;D
