Dameon is sweet, loving and always does his best for other people, even if it hursts him. He would be SOOOO much better for Elf! She's such a moody person herself, she needs someone who will balance her and love her. Rushton is too much of a brooding person himself for them to work out!

NO! Rushton and Elf are not perfect for one another at all! They are both intense, brooding people who tend to hide their feelings. What Elf needs is someone who's trusting and sweet, with the ability to see her emotions so as not to misconstrue anything she says. Hmm... now who fits that criteria? Let me think...

But don't you think that Elf would resent Dameon's ability to see exactly what she's feeling? I mean, I know he's way too honourable to ever use his abilities like that, but Elspeth isn't particularly giving towards anyone and I have this feeling she would be really uncomfortable with people knowing exactly how she feels all the time.
I don't know, but Rushton's ability to open her up, challenge that solitary stance she's adopted since childhood is good for her. She's very stubborn and sometimes stubborn people need someone similar to make them realise a few of their bad habits. If Dames were able to see everything she were feeling, it might make Elspeth way too complacent about expressing herself more.
That and I think she values her independence too much to relinquish her emotions to Dameon. And if Dameon were forced to keep up his empathic shield around her all the time to accomodate to that, wouldn't that be a real strain on the relationship?

I mean, Rush and Elf have their problems too sure! It's what makes me love them sometimes, they're so blind to each other's feelings. But I think that when those feelings get communicated correctly, which Elspeth is learning how to do, then it's just swoonworthy! ;D

Swoonworthy? Gah! Sorry, I've never really liked Rushton. I think you do have some good points, but I also think that Elf would express herself more if with Dames, because she'd know that if she said something that sounded slightly different to what she wanted to communicate, he'd understand what she was saying. That way, she wouldn't have to be scared about expressing herself

I must say, if she can't have Dames or Swallow, Rushton is fine with me. He has his good points, and he obviously loves her. Still, poor Dames never gets what he wants, I think he and Elf should at least end up happily-ever-after!

Hehe, that last point I can definitely agree with! Unless she dies, in which case I will be bawling so much that the pages of the book will get all crinkly and I'll need to use a hairdryer to remedy that. ;D

And yeah, if Elf couldn't be with Rushton, then I'd want her to be with Dameon. because as you said, she's had such a hard life that she deserves someone who really loves her. Unless ofcourse that person happens to be Swallow, in which case, Elspeth will have to JOUST with me for him!

Because I may be confusing some people with my stance on this issue, as I'm a supporter of the Elf/Swallow thing on another thread, I would like to make it clear that in order of preference for Elf I believe...

1st: Dameon or Swallow (I can't choose, I think both would be great with her)
2nd: Rushton

But as this thread is Russhie vs Dames, I'll focus on him I don't think she'll dies... I hope not anyway. I think one of the main characters will die *sob* Anyway, Dameon and Elf are meant to be, and always have been

Dameon would be so much better for Elf. Imagine a scenario in which Elf tells Rushton she had to go on a quest. Can you see him understanding and being nice? I can't. All I can see is him blowing up because she's going off with Swallow. Dameon would understand that he'd need to let her go, knowing she would come back to him.

Secondly, I would like to point out how nice Dameon has been about Elf and Rushton being together. Did he sulk? No. Was he horrible to either of them? No. Can you see Rushton being that nice? The brooding, possessive Rushton would probably have sulked. As per usual.

Dameon would "understand" coz he just doesnt love Elspeth as muh as Rushton. Rushton would be broody and upset because he loves her so much and would be in pain duh! Rushton would fight for Elspeth, Dameon would just crawl up in a ball with "understanding". He would let her run off with Swallow because he wouldn't want to upset anyone. The fact of the matter is that Rushton worked with Freya on his talent to impress Elspeth, but wat has Dameon ever done to try to win her over? Hmm? He's just not that into her. And obviously, vice versa.

I think you are misunderstanding Dames here! He loves Elf MORE than Rushton, because he is happy to let her make her own choices. He's happy because she's happy, whereas Rushton was only happy when he got his way. Take Ashling for an example. Dames was happy coz Elf was content and in love. However, when Elf was cold towards him, Rushton sulked. And brooded. And generally got on everyones nerves. Who's the stronger character? The one who sulks or the one who lets Elf make her own decisions?

As for Rushton brooding when she leaves because he loves her, maybe that's true. However, isn't it a little cruel to sulk and brood when Elf is so torn about her quest anyway? Wouldn't it prove his love more if he was understanding and let her go. I'm not saying he should smile and wave goodbye happily, but he needs to stop thinking about what HE wants and consider her feelings.

Dames not being that into her? Forcive my scepticism! If he isn't, why did he ask to stay in Sador? Why did he shield his emotions from her? Why did he promise never to leave her again? (I always feel like crying in that scene, it's so beautiful!) Dames is so in love with her he's happy to jeopardise his own happiness to see her happy. It must be so sad for him to watch her with Rushton, yet he's willing too because he loves her.

Can you see I've been debating today? lol. I'm still in the debating frame of mind, so sorry about the rant! However, as the third speaker for the negative, I would like to once again re-iterate...

but as lovely as dames is, elf needs rushton. why? because she's actually quite brittle and she's gunna need someone who can do more than just make her feel better with soft words and epathy but can also pull her back to her feet. and Rushton has the strength to do that.

Seriously, what do you think Elspeth will do when she finds out Dameon's in love with her, and has always been? Will she estrange herself from him, or would she possibly leave Rushton to 'sort herself out'? The more I think about it, the more I see Elspeth as single by the end of the Sending. Finding out your confidant is in love with you...well, it's gotta have an impact. And the fact that Rushton knows about it, and still went after Elf *shakes head* isn't there some cardinal rule with 'mates' there that's being violated? lol.

Dameon's just so lovely, I want to see him happy at the end of the Sending too not pining or anything.
Maybe the teknoguilders will discover how to clone, and clone a copy of Elspeth

You know Min, there's allways a possibility that someone else will fall for dames whilst Elf's with Rushton.
You know, I'm thinking that Dames is right in front of Elf, right? But then one day someone else will love Dames and it will be too late.
And then Rush will go and.....well she'll be alone.

I think someone might fall for Dames, but I think he's the sort who'll stay devoted to Elf no matter what.

Also, I don't know whether Dames and Rushton will be best friends anymore. They haven't seen each other since they left Sador, so we don't know whether they'll still be as friendly. Personally, I'd be pretty p!ssed off if I were Dames. Not only did his 'best mate' end up with his girl, the afore mentioned best mate also decided to be horrible to him.

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to really dislike Rushton. I'm fervently hoping he'll split up with Elf when she leaves on her quest with Swallow, and she'll realise how blind she's been and realise in turn she was always meant for Dames... but probably not. That sounds a little too easily resolved for IC!
