We all seem fairly like minded so I thought it would just be interesting to see who would end up in Government if it was up to us Ober.netters. I apologise to all of you hate all things political. Have a nice Day. Raineth.

I haven't put in my vote.
I'm a Greens supporter, and I will be voting Green in the Senate. However, I will probably vote Labor in the House of Reps.
I dislike the Labor party, but I absolutely DETEST the Liberals, so it seems to me that though Labor aren't perfect, ANYTHING to get rid of the Howard Government. If I thought the Greens had any chance of winning goverment, I'd vote Green both houses, but as they will never get government, it seems better to vote labor. I'd hate to feel like it was my fault that the liberals got back in.
To conclude: Green on Principal. Labor out of neccesity.
KSL PS. For the first time EVER, it's possible that ACT will vote in one Labor and one Green Senator! Hurrah!!! Then we will have NO LIBERAL REPRESENTATION AT ALL! (No wonder Howard hates us so much!)

I'm voting democrats, because I don't want to vote liberal or labour and I think that the greens policies are unobtainable at the moment, and I just want to see the democrats more seats in the house of reps so the big parties don't monopolise EVERYTHING!

Go KSL! I totally love the Greens but I will be voting for them in the Senate and in the house of Reps, i'm feeling fairly confident that it won't get the Howard govt. back in. Labour is just a bit too spineless for me.

Liberal all the way, if I could vote. (Although those annoying people at the train station don't seem to get the picture I can't vote for another 3 years. Even when I told the guy I'm not even 15 yet he was like "You can still have a flyer" and I'm like "You're the greens party!! Save paper!! I don't want one! I can't vote for you anyway, and why do you think this would make me want to?!!?" The liberal and labour people weren't as bad, but that's not why I'd vote liberal...)
Man-boobs "Ease the Squease" Latham's STUPID private school's thing is SOOOOO annoying.
*breathes*
But I'm not going to start debating about that here...

I immensely dislike Latham. So far I haven't heard any good reports from him being a mayor, or leader in general... AND NOW HE MIGHT RUN THE COUNTRY! I think not. LIBERAL ALL THE WAY! I agree with you cat-eyes!

Oh, and another thing, what the hell is with Labour's ads?! They all look like joke ads! Every time I see them I expect them to be an ad for the Pannel!
And they don't have any ground!!
Also, does it seem to anyone else that Labour's entire tactical plan is to find a group no one likes and alienate them? Beazley did it, and now Latham's doing it to private schools. Does he not understand the system?!!? The Federal Government funds mostly the private schools, and then the State Government funds the STATE schools!! The Fed Gov gives about 70 - 30% in favour of the private schools, but the State goverment (or Vic at least) gives something like 92 1/2 % to the state schools!! State schools get about 8 or 9 grand per student and private get like 4 grand per student!!
Besides which, private schools aren't only for the rich and famous! Heaps of people who go to private schools forfeit things like a holiday every year or something like that to afford private schools! And they all pay tax, which, of the school bit, goes mostly to the state schools. Their money should help them out as well, they shouldn't be paying for everyone else to go to school ON TOP OF having to pay HEAPS for their own child to go to school because the government won't pay!!

Yah, I think he probably does. But he knows that the majority of the public hasn't caught on, so to get votes, they're playing on stuff like that...

I am finding it a bit too hard not to respond to Cat-Eyes but I will limit it to this: I went to one of the most elite private shools in Australia, my year twelve year cost $26ooo. At that school we had EVERYTHING and we were being given 2 million per annum by the govt as well! It was darn obvious to me who really needed that 2 million. O.k that is how I feel, but I respect your right to your opinion Cat-Eyes and bare you no ill will. And I really don't think I've spelt "bare" right.
O yeah,and Kayt for P.M!!! I reckon you'd be Fab!

*deep calming breath*
This whole School Funding issue annoys that crap outta me.
The Government gives up to 7.9 freakin million dollar to a private school, while the MOST a public school can manage is 1.5 million, are you saying that that's fair?!
Private schools will automatically have more money, because parents pay a crap load more money for their kids to attend there, and those thousand and thousand of dollars go to the better equiptment and education facilities.
And i dont want to target you and be mean CAt-Eyes, but saying that heaps of people forfeit things like a family holiday is so riddiculous. Some people may do that, but my family, for example, dont even GO on a family holiday pretty much EVER and even if we forfeited everything we fricken well had bar our house, we wouldnt be able to pay for my two brothers and I to attend a private school that costs $20 grand a year, and we're just an average family.
I dont think Latham is trying to alienate a group that people 'dont like' i just think hes seeing the reality of the situation. 70% of all full-time Australian students attend public schools, and the funding is unbelievably fair.
Sorry if i got too heated, and sorry if you feel like ive targeted you cat-eyes, i didnt mean to, the whole issue just frustrates me.

All I know is that the school at which I work (a state school and a good one, too )is going to be losing $300,000 a year in funding under the new state government funding scheme. How on earth are we meant to run a school under those conditions?

ok im an indipendant /democrats fan...tho i vote labour usually... im not goin to say anymore then that...and i havent read the arguements...cos i get so heated and highly dislike these convos...prob cos most of my friends are private skool libral ppl...ARGH! wat i will say is i HATE the howard governmetn! between destroying our education system and health system he ahs successfully made us much worse off then any other country u can think of! those 2 things are the basis for future sucess and by cuttin funding and makin it impossible to run uve destroyed the future/all hope! i hate him with an absolute passion!
try coping with a 30% fee increase -TWICE!! so i jumped form 6000 a yr (thats with 25% off cos i pay it upfront) to practically 10 000 a yr! i cant afford that!!! and when i work my butt of to be able to pay it - i cant get youth allowance, or centerlink - cos i earn to much then. how can i do that! well by goin to work nad not uni!!!! tell me how that works!!! or is fair!!!! if i dont pay it up front theres a 20 000 a yr degree at the end of it (after interst and all. plus u dont get any tax back cos it goes to paying hecs)... then to completely cut me off medicare and any health plan as soon as i turn 21!!! even tho im a student and am entitled to remain on family plans!!!! but no that will cost the same as it would for me to start up by my self!!! isnt the whole point bout affordability!!!!!!! ARGH...ok im goin to shut up...weather that has any relavence or not..i still say it stinks! majorly! and wat ever happens the effects of his doin will be seen during the next person rule and make him look bad instead...argh..i hate how this all works.

It's almost impossible to hold back from debating when it comes to political issues. When you feel passionately about something, you naturally feel a need to make everyone else see your point of view. I'm constantly amazed at the dozens of ways it's possible to see an issue, depending on your walk of life, your income, your education, etc. Maybe we should just stick to talking about the weather. It's a bit overcast down here today. It rained last night, but we need the rain, really...

Mm, even though we've stopped debating, I'm with Cat-Eyes on this. A lot of people dont understand the difference between local, state and federal governments and what each of them is responsible for (including me!) Miska, how on earth do you go from paying 6000, to 10000, to 20000 a year??! That's insane! What course are you doing? And how are you cut off from medicare once you turn 21......? I dont understand... That would be ridiculously crap!!! My only beef with the Howard government is the ridiculous way they are trying to get more doctors into rural areas (I'm a med student..) but I cant side with Latham on that, because that idiot has taken the Howard governments idea and decided to run with it. *sigh* So, I think I said in the poll that I'd vote Labor, as I think voting for a minority party in the House of Reps is almost pointless, and because despite the fact that both Liberal or Labor has p!ssed me off with their ideas on getting doctors to rural areas, I dont think the Liberal government has really done enough with their past 6 years or whatever. They weren't crap, but they weren't fantastic either, so it's time to give someone else ago.

I would just like to add that the federal government is responsible for deciding how much money each state government gets. The state government then has to do the best with that, and its often not enough.

ok will all those figures... i started my degree adn it was 6000 for a yr. its now (after fee increase) much closer to 10,000 (i think 9600 or something...)...20,000 is a guest-imate if i was to put it on hecs (since i dont im goin by past students and stuff). cos with interest nad stuff by the time i got to pay it (IF i placed it on hecs) would be about that much per yr! ...but im doin science and each of my lectures is costing me $75/hr...thats with out text books, lab maunals, lab coats etc.. that arent included in the actual fees and are compulsary...so to me thats jsut crazy & ive bin spewing bout it for ages...
with the medicare...u have to reaply once u turn 21. cos ur concidered an adult...ur ment to b able to stay on the family card if ur still a student..but (prob jsut the ppl in our area) ours didnt do that and charged us more and stuff....so yea...it might b that my family is just having lots of bad luck (cos hell we sure are)...but thats wat happened
