I hope not, but we all know her reputation for starting books and series before she's finished the last ones.

Yeah - what is her problem with closure?

Maybe she's a gemini Gemini's are supposed to have no problems starting anything, but major problems finishing them ...or not. I remember IC mentioning somewhere that she's had the Sending planned out for ages - in her head - and has been stewing over the ideas. She's determined not to rush it, so she can make it as fantastic as possible. I reckon, take as long as you like, as long as it's a) the last one! and b) totally utterly jaw-dropping fantastic. It'll be well worth the wait.

Is there a problem with the series going on forever? As long it finishes in my lifetime. And I get a chance to read it in my lifetime. Personally, I'd like a sixth/seventh book...
And what's all this about ten years?

emi267, u remind me a lot of omegadefender. ye are quite different but in some ways similar. i dont know of anyone else quite like either of ye. different in a remarkable, good way. omegadefender is another obernetter. he's been a member since a few years and is one of the few male oldies. i dont really kno him. just kno a little about him. the obernewtyn chronicles were started about ten years ago. some people have been waiting a long time. link obernewtyn was released in 1987.

Don't remind me :S I picked up the books right before Ashling came out. I passed my decade of waiting for an ending last year. Poor Bunne and Rigel, they're two that i know of that have been waiting longer. I think Min and Avvy as well. I wish she would finish *sigh*

The sad thing is that, back when Ashling came out, I was unbelievably eager to read the conclusion. I wanted to know how everything turned out and how things were settled. Ten years later, I'm afraid I don't care quite as much. Of course I'm looking forward to the launch and to finally reading the conclusion, but I'm not as anxious to read it as I was back in the mid-nineties. It's a little sad, really. * mopes in the corner*

I wouldn't be surprised if the series got expanded, or if she has more spin-offs. IC loves to explore different 'lands' and people and she has opened a huge can with LOTRQ and Sador and the other land who took all the women (can't remember it's name). Although she may explore these in the before time chronicles a little, there is also lots to explore post great white. There is also so much that needs explaining before the series can wrap up and Elspeth has her work cut out for her to find all the signs and to explain what they all are and how they got there as well. Either way, I think The Sending is going to need a wheelbarrow to carry it! Personally I'm hoping it is the conclusion,as like many of you I have been busting for the release of every book since Farseekers. If I was IC I wouldn't be letting on if she had decided to extend the series, there would be a miniature message board riot right here if she did

She's actually spoken of starting the Beforetime Chronicals after she's finished Ober, so you'd be right on that count, Pip

Please, please... I beg of her: finish the Ober Chron before you start the Beforetime Chronicles!! Please! I'll just go back to my corner now.

LOL, here here, Bun! She's not just talked about Beforetime Chron - I believe she's actually signed a publishing contract to complete them after Sending / Darkbane. So the spin-off to the OberChron will happen It makes me look forward to the Sending more, I think - because the last book might be the end of Elspeth's story but it won't be the end of that adventure, if you know what I mean...

sad as it is I have been reading and re-reading these books for nigh on twenty years and now a friend has had an email from the publisher to say that The Sending has been pushed back until March 2007. disappointing but the book should be worth it and in the meantime I'll just keep reading the ones i have. cheers.

Min, you were right she is a Gemini, I knew I had her DOB hiding in one of my collections of notes from an oral presentation I did in yr 11. 16th of June, it makes this all so much more acceptable tbh, she really can't help it can she. Though all along, as frustrating as it has been I have been rather sympathetic to her plight, she has been working on it since she was like 14 and all, she has grown up with this story and finishing would mean a finality in a stage of her life as well as the story. It would feel like losing a close friend.
I actually suspect Kayt will have this problem when she gets Questers published. Sorry hun but I do.

I actually cannot imagine that The Sending could not possibly tie up all the many many many loose ends - unless it was this big *holds arms out as far as they will go - then cranks out even further*. So I'm not gonna be in the least surprised if it is extended. I've never read a book that ties so many knots in one go.

That is true, but as someone I know reminded me once, not all questions are answered. Some are left for the reader to contemplate and conclude how they will. Even though I do expect IC to tie up the ends simply because of the series (and another mini riot here if they're not) I am in two minds about it being the last book. After all, once we know all there is to know, the fun theorising will be over for this series. (oh, hi again to everyone.) These are just some random thoughts from the depths of captivity..........

If all the questions are not answered, we could always do it ourselves through our own fanfiction

i think we can take it as pretty much a given that not all the loose ends will be tied (although some might just be placed end-to-end in a maddeningly frustrating way). I see the BC stories linking back with OC through some of these loose ends (ie, tying them up in the BC instead), but the truth is in life, not everything gets tied up nice and neatly. Sometimes there are loose ends, and it is always fun to speculate about them
