Yeah cheers. I think I may be waiting a long time for an Obernewtyn film to be released. Ah well a man can dream. I can act though. I only started modelling as a means of springboarding my way into acting. I've been doing it for years and it's my lifes passion. A character like Ariel would be an actors playground. There are untold depths to him and everything he says is very precise. I'd relish the opportunity.

Hi there, my alter ego is alwayslove and I joined ober.net a couple of days ago. My name came from one of my favourite songs by Nada Surf. 'always love.' check it out. My fave character in the book is... probably Elspeth, everyone probably says that, but I think she's awesome. My favourite Obernewtyn book is Ashling, because thats the one where Elspeth and Rushton get together My fave colour is green... and blue i guess. My fave food is any kind of pasta. My hobbies or interests are READING, MUSIC, dancing, fantasy, writing, photography, drawing, learning, um.. history, particularly modern history, philosophy and culture. Nice to meet some likeminded people who like IC's books. Can anyone tell me the latest on 'the sending'

Hi everyone, thanks for being so welcoming. also thanks to snowmular for the tip on 'the sending'. can't believe i missed that! and to Mornir-K, I haven't done any drawings of the ober characters yet, but I'll get on to it, and post some up here when I'm finished/work out how to post them. hehe. I spoke to my local angus and robertson yesterday and they reckon they haven't got any information on 'the sending', so it won't be coming out within the next three months. I hope they are wrong. So what's everyone's fave book in the series? and is there any other authors or books you'd recommend? thanks again

Well, my fav book has to be 'The farseekers' - cause she meets Dragon and Bryda - two very great characters Authors: I really like Diana Wynne Jones for her magic themes... but some of them can be a bit more aimed at kids... but a good 'grown up' ones is 'Fire and Hemlock'. And on a randomish note, I prefer 'The Legendsong' series to Obernewtyn... but only very very slightly!

The mystics have WAY too many members as it is join the Ashlings... well actually I think the Wanders lack numbers the most... not to sure... wow back up...ashlings have got the most still active members then wanderers, mystics and last dreamweavers..infact ashlings have got almost more than twice as many as any other guild (if mystics and wanderers join together ashlings would still have more)...so therefore by your logic people really should be joining any other guild except for ashlings ;D hehehehee anyway i havnt been on this thread in ages there are always sooo many new people so hello to all hope you enjoy the site and are more active than i am, i never get time to come on its sooo sad, im still such a newbie. anyway enjoy and come join the mystics because i say so hehehe nah just have fun...but mystics have chocca...and glow worms...!!!! ;D

True true esspess - well I'm not too sure about all the guilds really I just see that Mystics have the highest guild points - but don't start on me! I know it's because they put in lotsa hard work in the last moonfair. Lol I guess by logic indeed it would seem I would be detering people away from my guild... maybe I should just keep quiet back here

Diana Wynne Jones is a great author! I have most of her books, even though they are probably aimed more at kids. Fire and Hemlock is a great book. I really liked that one. I also liked Hexwood, Howl's moving castle and a Tale of Time City. What's the 'Legendsong' series? What are they about, I know that tends to be a hard question, but I was just wondering if they are similar to the Obernewtyn Chronicles? Seeya

Yay!! I'm glad you like DWJ too I own Hexwood - but I haven't read it yet, lol the main reason I bought it is because I did a character quiz on DWJ... and it said that I was like Ann from Hexwood - haha so I'll see how that turns out I first read Charmed Life when I started reading the Ober Chron - and fell in love with it, but it wasn't until last year when Howl's Moving Castle came out as an anime that I sought after her books again. I love the Chrestomanci series - lol however kid aimed it may be. I'm reading 'The Magicians of Caprona' at the moment. The Legendsong - what's it about - yep you are right that is definitely a hard to get a brief summary ... well like all IC stories - it takes you to another world. It focuses on two twin sisters - who are very different, one, Glynn is very a blonde haired, athletic girl (but not that popular) while her sister Ember is a beautiful firey red-head with a passion for music - but not for life. She was diagonised with a tumour and would be told she would die, and since she found out she kind of lost her zest for life. Also, she is half-blind. Their parents died in a car crash so all they have in the world is each other. While holidays out in the Greek Islands, they manage to get separated and end up in a parallel world... Keltor. Glynn is in desperate search of her sister, while Ember has forgotten who she is. Unwillingly, both of them manage to get tangled up in the politics of the world and it seems that their destiny lies within the prophey made long ago about 'The Unraveller' and demon who is believed to destory Keltor. Not sure whether that is a great explaination... but lol it's something.

Sounds awesome! I'll definitely check it out! What's the first book in the series? You should read Hexwood.. It's wonderful. Ann is a good character. The Chrestomanci series are great too. I've got all them. haha. I haven't seen the anime movie of Howl's moving castle yet! Is it good? I'm half terrified to see it just in case they've ruined it! Hi Arien Nice to meet you too! This site is a great distraction from my studies, which I welcome whole heartedly.

I quite agree ^_^ The first book is called Darkfall - the second is Darksong - which is REALLY long - but hey a great read, not that'd you expect any less from Isobelle Carmody I agree with Min - it's a great movie - but be warned it is VERY different from the book, would you like me to point out some of the differences... I think there is a thread here that talks about it. But just click the spoiler tab if you are curious, they won't be big spoilers because I'm a firm believer in not ruining the experience Well, Miss Angoran (if that's her name... you know the black haired school teacher) she's not it in, and her sisters don't have as much of a big part. Michael is like 7 (well I thought 5 at first... but the more realistic should be 7). That's just book differences, I've told you nothing about how they change it in the movie, you'll just have to go and see

Hey Flicka welcome to Ober-net! I hope you have a great time here discussing the thing that we all have in common: A love of this great series (Obernewtyn ) by Isobelle Carmody As for what to do, check out Obernewtyn theories to read and to speculate yourself on some theories about 'The Sending' or how it is fondly referred to here: 'The Sneding'. The Dining hall is a place to play games and just muck around. For a bit of crazy fun check out Sus Rid (not quite sure on Sustaire Riduculum, but may as well check it out too ). The Library is a place to discuss all books, maybe learn about a great new author or two. And the writersmerge, well for the writers in us all

Hey flicka! welcome to Obernet! you'll have to give me a hint as to who you are... i recommend a lot of people I'm a regular Obernet PR monster. Are you a relation of Brumby's or were you one of the ones stuck with me for a week
Dark One has given you a great place to start, but that might bog you down with rules and regulations, good things to know, but don't think that's the it and end all of Obernet, not by a long shot. You should have a squizz about the other threads. This thread is for general chatter and announcements, then we have the Library, where you can talk about books, tv shows and films to your hearts content. Then there is the DinningHall where it's spamming to your hearts content. Another area you should check out is the Theories Board, where you can debate and argue and discuss theories on the Obernewtyn books and any of the other books by Isobelle Carmody.
Feel free to get stuck in, and don't be scared, only a few people bite, and they tend to be dual-flush toilets, which if you're a Wanderer i'll leave that to them to explain, but if you're not, you can be confused like the rest of us.
If you haven't been assigned a guild yet, you need to sign in on the www.obernewtyn.net website and click the "join us" on the top banner. That'll sign you up officially and you can pick a guild or let the guild sorter place you. Or you can be like me and just cruise about without one.
we're also in the middle of Moonfair. If you go to the main page, it'll give you a link. This is just a yearly celebration of Obernet where each of the guilds get together and create games for the rest of us to play. There is a bit of competition in it as well, but the most important thing is that they are perfect for time wasting!
well i hope you're not currently suffering from information overload, just remember to take things cruisy. everyone here is lovely, insane, and always up for fun. If you have any problems, feel free to PM Me. This is like private little emails, just in case you're wondering about something and don't want to write it on the boards.
So i hope you have fun! And Welcome to the world of the Obernet, where penguins abound and limas have a habit of stealing the best hats. Curse them
