hey peoples! I've been an obernewtyn fan for years now, and only just found this place exists. not that new to proboards sites, but I somehow feel a bit lost. can someone please explain why none of these guilds are the ones in the books?

The Guilds here are not the same as the ones in the books because when Ober.net first began there wasn't enough people for all those Guilds. Also, if, say, you were placed in the Farseekers but wanted to be a Futureteller, things could get all crazy...
So everyone split into four groups and each were asked to come up with their own name So now we have Mystics, Dreamweavers, Ashlings, and Wanderers!

I'm sure the lost feeling will disappear very soon as these are pretty easy boards to navigate and I bet you'll learn your way around them really quickly.
The guilds are a great way to get involved, and I'm sure that once (or if, as Squirt said) you become a guildmember then they'll help you find you way around and answer any questions you have in a bit more detail. Until then though, ask away to any of us and we'll help if we can!

Hiya, all!
I only joined today- shall I tell you the story? I shall ^_^. The Obernewtyn series has been one of my "comfort books" since I was 11. I'm rereading them again. Anyway, I let slip the old "Talk less and say more" to Franky (HeartOfDarkness) who I know from school, and she was like "Hmm.. where did you get that from?" and so ensued the usual fan-hyper-convo.
Oh yes, my name is Nick. My username was just a fusion of that and the first appropriate piece of Obernewtyn vocab that came to mind. Besides, what isn't cool about being a coercer?! Okay so stubbornness, fear of heights... *cough*.
My favorite character... hum I couldn't choose. I like the first three books equally, and the Keeping Place only slightly less so.
About me... hmm. I read, I write, I cook, enjoy my French, am an aikidoka, animal rights activist. Urm.. I expect there's more but shmeh. Oh my favorite school subjects are philosophy, French and chemistry.
Some of my other favorite authors are Paulman, Tamora Pierce, Rowling, Willard Price and a bunch more.
