Well,I was in the local library DESPERATE to find at least one good book to read.I was getting so angry that finally I sat down. And then(I WILL ALLWAYS REMEMBER THIS MOMENT) I just say Obernewtyn staring down at me.Because I LOVE any books(instead of those Mary- kate and Ashley books.Egh!) I reached up and grabbed it. When I noticed the author I smiled because I had previously read 'Green Monkey Dreams' and T'he Gathering 'and 'Scatterlings'. I read the blurb and instantly I was hooked. So I borrowed every book in the series out at once(I tend to do that because I read fast) and began reading. When I finnished Obernewtyn I instantly jumped into 'Ashing' and then I read the other ones. After that I got onto the fansite - and here I am!

oh my gosh this thread is so old but i wanna say how i came across the OC so.... It was last year I think and my school had to do this reading thing for 20 minutes every day and i had forgotten to get a book for it so the lunchtime before i was meant to go I rushed into the library and "Obernewtyn" was the first interesting-looking book I could find. Yet it was really weird coz it was as if I wa meant to find it or something coz I loved it from like the very first page! I becam obsessed really quickly it was weird

good thread to bring back up ryneisha!!
I was introduced to it by my ex best friend ( best friend at the time) who incessantly nagged anyone to read it. i borrowed her 4 books and so did mum. a few yrs later she became a cow and dated my ex and hates me. so i bought my own copy hehe ( ive ranted about this girl in the rant thread lol)
Mum wants to reread them. she loves science fantasy and fiction and she really liked the series.

Oh man I hate to addmit that I just randomlly picked it up in the school library, becuase I needed to read something while I wait for another book my sister was reading. At first I thought it boring (I know, how wrong was I) I got so into it when all those mistirious things started happening and when I realised that it is actually set in the 'future'. Oh man and after just reading the first tw chapters of Farseekers, I was hooked! And I tell you what, after reading the whole series, I read them all over again straight after, and that is not common for me. Oh yeah, and never ended up reading that book I was originally waiting to read!

I remember how I first started on them... it was 10 years ago when I was like 11 and in year 6 at school... I was in this wanky special class for talented kids or something and our teacher kept making us do all these literature studies about authors... which is really hard when you'r only 11... but anyway one time we each got assigned an Aussie author to do the study on and I got picked to do Isobelle Carmody so that's when I first read Obernewtyn and I was hooked! I got Farseekers a bit after that then Ashling about a year later. I can't believe that Obernewtyn had already been published since 1987 by the time I read it and yet The Sending still hasn't come out! I mean I know it's better to wait for it cos we want it to be as good as it can be... but man it's been a while! Yeah so that is my story.

My Obernewtyn Chronicle love was invoked by one of my friends. We were in the library, discussing good books and tehn going ot see if they had it. My friend (who's reading choices I hold in extremely high esteem) said "Hey, have you read this," and obviously I replied something along the lines "no", but I immediately borrowed Obernewtyn despite my despair at the somewhat lousy cover (the old one- oh how I hate it). I began reading it and at first I sorta liked Obernewtyn, but as the novel progressed I found I enjoyed it more. Then, I borrrowed the next book which I liked from the owrd go and so on and so forth. I am so thankful for my friend putting me on the path to Obernewtyn Chronicles and also, ultimately, the Legendsong Saga which I also enjoy. Thanks friend...

I remember while sitting in Chinese School, a friend had this massive book out lying on the table. It was hard to miss, so during class, I was glancing at the covers every now and again. I still remember seeing the gyspy-looking girl riding a horse, and the author's name spread out BIG over the front. I asked my friend if the book was good, and she said "YES!". Unfortunately, after that, I completely forgot about finding out more about it.
In year 9, for English, everyone had to read the Gathering. And the author's name looked familiar to me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I really enjoyed the book, so I ventured out to find other books by the same author. And lo behold, I discovered the massive book with the gypsy-looking girl riding a horse. I loved reading OC, and didn't have to wait too long for TKP (lucky me) ^_^
About 7 years later, suddenly, thinking of what good books to read, I remembered OC, read it again, and LOVED it much more the second time ^_^
And now you've all convinced me to buy my own copies of OC!

lets see, i was never a big reader, in fact i used to hate reading *gasps!* i know, tragity right? anyway, i read Harry Potter and loved it so much that mum and i went to the library and i saw Obernewtyn. and do you guys know that saying 'don't judge a book by's it cover'? well i did, it was so cool! it was the newest one and i thought it looked really......mystical or something and i borrowed it. i also borrowed Alison Croggons book the Gift and her and IC are my two all time fav arthurs! so i guess that's how i found them and man i'm i glade i found her books!! coz if i hadn't, i wouldn't be a big reader and i would never have found the amazing world of not only Obernewtyn, but the Legednsong and of course, i never would have met all you guys!

It was 1998. Ashling was the book the chonices was up to, and my school decided to use the book as a eglish book (ie like most people end up reading lord of the flies or looking for alibrandi (both I read twice coz I moved schools so much in high school, grrrrr so annoying)). It was cool coz IC came to my school to talk about the series. I immediately read most of her books (I only just read the gathering late I know) over and over again tat big is awesome I've highlighted the passage. My baby's name was almost Elspeth and may still be for the next one (her dad got dibs on the first borns name family tradition)

I was in a bookshop, looking for a new "horse-book" (you see, at that time, I was at the end of my horsey-book reading.) I first picked up Ashling because it had a horse on the cover, I then read the blurb and was hooked! I started reading a bit in the car but the amount of names caused a block-age of my image-space in my mind <say THAT 10times fast!> I looked at the front cover, realised it was actually the THIRD in a series, howver I kept on reading. Unfortunantly, my first impression was this: Rushton being moo was older.... and i couldn't figure out at first if dragon was a dragon or a person... i then decided elf and matthew should be together! How my perception has changed since! (oh yes, i also read the others, and realised how bad my first impressions of rushton were...)
Cheers, E

This is my first post since joining, so it seems appropriate to write on how I was first introduced to this!!! I was tutoring a primary school child to get myself through university, and her assigned book at school was 'Obernewtyn'. I was especially bored while she was solving her Maths problems, so I picked the book up off her desk and started to read it while she was doing her Maths. I read it bit by bit while she was doing her maths during subsequent tutoring lessons. Consequently, I "borrowed" the book and haven't returned it since!!!! And the rest, they say, is history! (out of interest, I did buy the rest of the books in the series, though) The lesson? Don't ever hire me as a tutor... As you can see, I wasn't a very ethical tutor!!!

I first read Obernewtyn because I was bugging my siblings and they wanted to shut me up. They had been talking about it for weeks so I felt a little curious.
