It all rather puts a different complexion on catching the bus tomorrow morning, doesn't it?
I think you know you're addicted to LJ when it's the first thing you turn to when you hear the news. I just hope Lu and another LJ Londoner friend of mine have a chance to let us know they're alive and well.
Acts of terrorism and disrespect for human life such as this make me so mad and at the same time make me feel so helpless. How can you talk to people who do this sort of thing? How do you reason with people who don't believe in the right of other people to exist? It's beyond me and it's quite frankly terrifying.
*grugs for UK Ober.netters*
Stay safe, do you hear me?

thanx everyone. maybe they're trying to prove a point or protest. it's just hard to work out what they have against the population of London who, despite Blair, were mainly anti-war. but i also think with everything going on here (winning the olympic bid, live aid and the G8 conference) all eyes are on the uk so it might not be anything except a cry for attention. it's a horrible one tho

This is why i get confused all the time.
But i am so angry with Tony Blair's PR manager at the moment. George Bush standing behind you while you tell your country to be strong aftre a terrorist attack. London is the centre of the anti-Iraq war movement, the last thing they want to see is Bush. looking like a right tosser too. God, his PR person should be shot, what an idiot, the absolute worst thing he could do.
But i suppose there isn't an election this year.
God, politics makes me sick sometimes. Mainly because it's not politics, it's greed under the guise of a democracy. hate it. hate it hate it. And those poor damn people get caught up in the middle of it. Hate it.

Trouble is, it doesnt matter if the population is largely anti-war. The government were pro war and they'll go for the Capitol City.
Aparently there's a lot of people still trapped in one of the stations...

All i can say is the first stages of Bali, the death toll was 5. You know it's wrong, and all you can do it wait.
And i was talking about Tony Blair's effect? How people view him? He needs to look like a strong leader, who is hurt by such a tragedy, he needs to look like a patriot. Like he's in control. It's comforting, it's the right persona for him to have at this time. But having Bush in the background changes the tone of the image. It was meant to look like solidarity, and it just looks like Blair is a puppet again, and he doesn't really care, he'll just be looking for a way to get political gains out of the situation. Which i honestly think is false, i honestly think Tony Blair, deep down, is a really good guy, but that's the image it will transmit. Sorry, i shouldn't be talking representation at a time like this. It is something to be picked over in a few days time. But i couldn't help but get angry over it. But i'm angry about a lot of things at the moment

yeah everyone is praising the emergency services, they've done a good job.
Good to hear from another England member.
Flit i think all the world leaders who were at G8 were standing behind blair at that conference. Bush was just right up the front unfortunatly.

I'm so shocked...saw the first reports last night that 2 were dead, and there was a barrister talking about what happened who was stuck on one of the trains...he was in total shock, I wish the reporters had gotten out of his face. WHERE IS LU? Is she ok? She's the only person we haven't heard from. oush *grugs Brit Obernetters* I can't believe this has happened...total shock. As well as Lu, one of my best friends from high school is over there and I haven't heard from her either... The reports this morning mentioned Al Qyeda of Europe or something claimed responsibility and that 38 were dead...dark one's update of 45 dead though?! Is it just going to keep climbing?
I'm just going to be rambling if I keep going on...*grugs everyone*

Never mind Tony Blair, Flit. George Bush makes me sick!
I quote (from memory): "I was very impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve was almost as strong as mine."
The man is SICK!!! "Their resolve was almost as strong as mine"? This isn't ABOUT YOU!!! This is about the people who DIED!!! This was an attack against BRITAIN! You express solidarity and THAT'S IT!!! HOW DARE YOU USE IT AS POLITICAL MILEAGE!!! AND HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT YOUR FELLOW LEADERS AREN'T AS DEDICATED TO DEFEATING TERRORISM AS YOU!!!
I'm sorry, but I'm absolutely furious!!! (And still concerned about Lu). But seriously, I can't believe anyone would try to get political mileage out of other people's suffering. It's disgusting.

Flit i think all the world leaders who were at G8 were standing behind blair at that conference. Bush was just right up the front unfortunatly. That was what i was getting angry about. I'm fine with the other leaders there, but Bush should not have been standing just behind Tony. If you ever wanted him to look like a puppet master, idiot leading an idiot, that was the way to do it. It should have been another leader, better yet if it was of different ethnicity. If Blair's PR guy doesn't do some quick spinning soon, there is going to be an interesting effect from this, i think. I mean, look what happened in Spain.... as i said, lucky the elections are over. *rolls eyes*
And Kayt, Bush would have course needed to comment, and what else could he have said? The G8 are a bunch of money hungry idiots. Everything Bush has been doing is all about making sure they get more money, so how could they fault him?
Well, it's good to know everyone is okay. And hopefully they won't pull any more bodies out. But as i said before, you can't declare someone dead until the coronor/doctor looks over them and agrees, and that won't happen until they are on the surface. I won't be surprised if this goes higher, then there are about 200 seriously wounded....
this all sucks.

What else could he have said???
How about "I am very sorry about this tragedy. I am shock and horrified. My condolonces to the victims families." That's the jist of what every other world leader said. It's the "My resolve is stronger then theirs" attitude that offends me.

I'm agreeeing with flit on it was a bad idea to have bush behind blair at the press conference it wasnt just that he was behind him that made him look like a puppet, bush was way too close to him too in my opinion. though im more wanting to murder the idiot who let bush out the front to make that stupid speech. he should have waited and made his speech with the other g8 leaders and the fact that he claimed to be speaking for the other leaders at the summit at one point!!!! and at tony blair for returning to the summit with the attitude of "whatever they do, terrorists will not succeed" hate to break it to you tony, but the bombs went off, the media reported it and people died. i think they succeeded!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i doubt it had anything to do with the summit either, i think it was more to do with the fact that london got the olympics, after their military actions in recent years (iraq for starters).
its really really terrible what happened, and that it had to happen, though im VERY impressed by how the emergency services dealt with it. even if they did kinda try and suppress the situation at first by saying it was power surges....

I can't believe it took me this long to find the thread!! I am in utter shock. I coulnd't believe it. And ALL 6 attacks in London. It's blown me away. When I first heard two deaths, it was upset. It's hard to think of deaths as just numbers. All those peoples families and friends and England as a country affected by it. This is horrible. I seriously don't comprehend how someone can even attempt to justify doing such a thing, how the people responsible don't feel remorse and feel as though they are doing themselves and others a service.. it makes me sick. I am also as equally shocked that Bush would have the audacity to say such a thing. I don't think I can express it in such outrage as Kayt did, but I'm appalled. All I can really say is that this is sick. Absolutely horrible.
I hope everyone is ok. xox talisha
