It was a tough one to transcribe, I tell ya!
*tuts at Frankie, Yvette and Em* Don't all talk at ONCE, ladies!
There was such enthusiasm in it! Hehehe! Sorry Kayt! We were all so excited! So Little Fur! Haven't read it yet, but it's not a picture book. It's just illustrated on some pages by IC herself. Here's the blurb from Penguin.com"Little Fur is an elf troll who dwells in a secret wilderness within an ancient human city, where she lives peacefully as a healer of small creatures. One day, danger threatens the wilderness and all who dwell there, and Little Fur must venture into the city in search of protective magic, guided by her friend Crow and two street-wise cats. Little Fur knows she may have to face brutish trolls and the terrifying greeps who roam in the night when humans sleep, but the greatest danger of all will be the legendary and terrifying humans."

Well I have Little Fur now. it's is such an endearing little book. As for being fit for a four year old? Well I read a little bit to my girl who turns three in September, but it was too much for her. They do however mature alot in a year. I would ask whether she has average-above average verbal skills. If she is struggling a little with her verbal skills I would wait for another year. My boy is 4 in October and he is not ready either, He definately would need it to be a picture book to cope with it, but that is much in the nature of boys and his verbal skills are a tad below average too. But they both really love the look of it and think it is very special which can be enough to sustain them until they are ready for having it read to them a year or so later. I would say at any rate four would be about the minimum age for this book. Although I know Isobelle made the story up for her daughter when she was three.
Okay, a day later and I'm back to disagree with what I wrote above. Trisfit read a chapter to Ellie before she went to bed and she really took it in better, although she still didn't understand all of it. And she's very excited now and is already making up stories to us about trolls and things. So I would say go for it!

Oh and I just found out that Julie McCrossin interviewed Isobelle Carmody the other day. I downloaded it and it was a cool interview. But More about Little Fur and how it came about and her philosophy on writing. Anyway you can go to the ABC Radio National website to get it. Like this ABC Radio National Life Matters section then scroll Down to IC interview. I suppose I really shopuld just put the link up. If anyone is interested I'll do that. So just tell me.

Wow that was the best and most wonderful thing thats happened to me for about two months. Thankyou Emerald, Yvette, HotD, Kayt and Min! It was so much fun to read! My thoughts exactly. I've gone all nervous and excited and covered in goosebumps reading it. Wow! I'm so thrilled she said so much... even if she couldn't answer all the questions. I still can't believe the destroyer is someone we've never guessed! And the destroyer is in the first book. We'll have to scan through the first book and pick out every random character we can. And I'm so glad that she likes the website. Sigh... I love this place so much. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU all of you who contributed to getting that interview up.

Double-posting... sorry... but just wanted to add that I listened to this interview and it was fantastic! It's 18 minutes long and only in audio form. And unfortunately it doesn't mention Obernewtyn at all. BUT... it's brilliant listening to IC talk about her inspiration and her childhood. The best bit was that she was asked what the overarching theme of her novels is. Her response: something like "Why are people the way they are? What are the seeds sown in children and adolescents that shape their future?" eg why do some kids turn out to be mother theresa and some turn into hitler? what influences people to become who are they as adults? I encourage everyone to listen coz it's great. (especially coz I'm such a huge fan this was just wonderful to hear her talking about what she does best!)

Damn, and my bets were on that pig... oh well....
Maybe it wasn't Rushton's pig, but another more evil and more powerful pig, ready to destroy the world!!!!!!
oh, i really have to get some sleep Ahahahaha! I'm sorry that was a delayed reaction but I jsut couldn't let it pass, it's too funny! It's Eli! There must be a reason he came back in the 4th book, he's the destroyer and linked with Salamander and in love with Elspeth and Lidgebaby's adult-half that was made in a weird splitting machine that Henry Druid had. Yup, Most foolproof theory. EVER! ...damn it! Now I really want to reread all the books and the first one in particular! Argh, and I forgot to thank Min and Emerald and Kayt and Frankie and Yvette for giving us all this theory-smashing insight! You guys are wonderful, feel free to join my pantheon of deities anytime...there's free nectar!

Someone asked on the first page did someone say Elspeth for the Destroyer, and I did. I'm sticking by my theory, because I dont think anyones guessed it, at least not to Isobelle. Part of Elspeth, anyhoo......*ponders*

No, no, no. She sometimes has "mocking voices" and the killing power. I think theres a whole other side to Elspeth that only sometimes shows through. And when Elspeth gets faced with the weaponmachines I think it'll be like Gollum and Smeagol; two totally different personalities. I think the Sending will be a more emotional journey, rather than physical. I mean sure, she does go to LOTRQ but I think it'll be more a battle inside herself rather than a battle that involves others. Sorta like Frodo and the Ring; he wants to destroy it, but theres a dark side of him too that doesnt want to (enforced by the Ring, of course). Elspeth wants to destroy the weaponmachines but theres a dark side (enforced possibly by the weaponmachines) that doesnt want to.
Wow. I really didnt mean to write all that. It just kinda did....lol.

thanks for that raineth, im just thinking trolls and stuff might be a bit much for her at the moment, with her obsession with monsters under the bed..... its driving me nuts when i babysit her, especially since she has one of those beds with the shelves under it so you cant just take a quick squiz with her and prove theres nothing under there.

Ahh... fight imagination with imagination. Give her some lip balm and tell her that monsters can't stand the smell of the lip balm, and won't be able to come anywhere near her while she has it on. Or something like that anyway.

im liking the theory on eli, its pretty plausible, it might also explain the vision of the silent vale, their final showdown there sort of thing, with him doing something with that hole elspeth threw the rock down and stuff. thats about as right from the beginning as you can get, he was like the first character mentioned.
hes not evil, just misled, and so long as ariel wasnt in herder garb possibly easily led by him, perhaps ariel promised a chance to destroy the herders or something? eli would hate them even more now after their stunt during the rebellion...
