Hey all,
When's it going to happen? As you hopefully are all aware by now, sometime in approximately the next 7 days or so our Message Board server will be undergoing an upgrade. I can't be any more specific than that at this stage. When the upgrade is about to happen, a message will appear at the top of the forum telling us that the upgrade will start within the next 24 hours. Then, the Message Boards will be down for between 12 to 24 hours
What does it all mean, Basil? A few people have been asking about what the upgrade means, so here's a quick spiel and a short list of a few features that sound pretty cool. Everyone please do take the time to read this message, cause.. I took the time to write it?
Firstly, the big thing that you need to know: entering your birthdate in your profile will become a compulsory field to fill in. This is because part of the ProBoards Terms of Service says that users must be at least 13 years of age, so they want to know everyone's birthdate so they can identify those accounts of people who aren't yet old enough. Basically, what this means is that if you say that you are less than 13 years old, your account will be deleted. So, anyone who says that they under 13 years old will unforunately have to post as a Guest.
It will also mean that your age will be displayed in your profile, but for those people like Buneater who doesn't want everyone to know that she's really 86 (oops! silly me!)... well, no-one's checkin' birth certificates.
What else is new?
There'll be a few handy navigation changes too, like drop-down menus to jump to the page of the thread that you want - kinda good for us when we have over 100 page threads - and a few new cool things that you'll just have to wait and see... ;D
The majority of the upgrade is really just going to make it a heck of a lot easier for us MoO's and Guardians to do the things we already do. Plus some nifty stuff for everyone else But, stay tuned...
Hope I've cleared up some of the puzzlement, and haven't created any more. If you want to look at a big list of new features (it's kinda dull) then check this out.

- When you want to format the text in your post, you'll be able to highlight the text and click the desired formatting - e.g. bold, italics, colours, etc. - instead of having to put the correct silly codes in as you go. Much easier!
- Polls will be able have more options - up to 30. So now we can list even more guys that Elspeth should potentially end up with!
- Improved Censor - we'll be able to make it so that the censor only censors full words instead of parts of words so you'll actually be able to say c0cktails, without it becoming thingytails.
- Quick Reply box at the bottom of threads, instead of going to a new page, if you are logged in.
- Spam protection for emails, so we won't have to worry about telling people our email addresses.
- AND THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: We'll be able to bring back all the different post count ranks that we used to have! *streamers!*
