I'm still thinking 2005. I really can't see it being ready this year if she has only recently started working on it. I mean, she started what, last August? I highly doubt that it will be ready by the end of this year.

Not that I've ever been a writer or know what it's like (This is probally a question for the budding writers here) But... do you think IC writes everyday? Like adds a bit to the sending or whatever, or do you think it takes so long because you can't write everyday but only when your in the zone... Cause I wouldn't think she has another job but is just a writer and all that it entails e.g. function apperances and publisher things... It's something I've thought about... Cause it's such a big task you would think that you would have to keep at it all the time... whether it was writing new stuff or reviewing what you've already written...

Well, here's what I usually do - I write a new chapter for my story. Then, over about three or four days, I read back over what I wrote and fix it all up. Then when I'm really happy with it (or as happy as I'm gonna get) I post it up online, and then I do nothing for about another week. I usually write a new chapter about every week or so, depending on what mood I'm in. Sometimes I just think "eh, I can't be bothered." and I don't write. Then other times, I stop working on my major story, and do other smaller stories on the side. I usually do that when I'm in the mood to write, but am not in the right mind set to write my big story. For someone like IC, I'd have to think that she wouldn't be working on the sending all of the time. I mean, she has so many other books out there that she can work on. And she has done stand alone stuff before, so I guess that she dosen't always just work souly on her series. But yeah, writing everyday is a sure way to drive yourself insane. I spend up to three hours on my computer, and my brains starts to melt. But that's just me. And I'm not a professional writer, so it may be different when you're doing it for a living. *Shrugs* I dunno.

It's inteesting to see it from your point of view... I don't think I could look at a computer for so long... Do you ever write on paper or a type writer? (I know it's a bit old fashioned!)

Well, when I first started (years and years and years ago) I used paper. I use to write all of my stories in note books. And I actually had a type writer when I was in primary school. I learnt to type on it, which was a bad idea, cos the ink ribbon was very bad so I used to have to really bang the keys to get them to work. When I started using computers in primary school, my teacher used to yell at me for bashing the key board. Not good. But now, all of my writing is done on my 13 year old computer in my bedroom, while my music is blaring in my ears. The perfect writing environment ;D But I still use note books to jot ideas down in. I hand write all of my chapter summaries, character profiles, and any other useful info on paper, so I can easily refer to to while I'm writing. I also (occasionlly) hand write the first chapter, just to get the feel for it. Or if I'm on holidays, I'll take a note book with me and write in the car. I did that on my last holiday actually. But yeah, I use my computer now. Soooo, much easier! ;D

Most professional writers do write every day. If you visit the website of your favourite author (other than Isobelle), you'll probably find they have a section on writing tips that urges you to write every day, even if it's just a couple of hundred words. I can say from experience that writing every day, no matter how you're feeling at the time, is extremely beneficial. After a while, you find it easier and easier to get into the whole writing mind-set and you may even discover that writers' block is a thing of the past.
I believe Isobelle also teaches and runs writing workshops, so that would occupy a fair bit of her time. She would also be working on several projects, so while she may not be writing on The Sending every day, she's probably writing on something (whatever it may be).

I'm totally with Buneater and Kayt - Legendsong has risen a little bit higher that Ober Chron on the top two fave series for me. Legendsong is fabulously written - IC's writing has grown so much since Obernewtyn. But being that Obernewtyn Chron is what got me interested in IC's writing, it'll always have special meaning, I guess. So was someone saying up further than Alyzon was renamed something else and is OUT already? I got a letter from Isobelle in March and she was still writing the last chapter of it then! She told me that she's working on the Firecat's Dream next though because Gateway Tril is being released a book a year and the publishers will want the next one quickly. Then after Firecat's Dream will come the Sending?

Min - I hope that the sending is due out after the last gateway tril book. That would be awesome!
I really couldn't stand writing all day. I'd get sick of it after a while, even though I love it! But once I get going, I can go for hours. It's just the getting started bit that puts me off.

I suffer from disastrous Writer's Block, but I try and do a little whenever I have a few hours to do it. It's just not worth it if I can only sit down for five minutes.
If I can't get any of the stories done, and even though I work on so many at once, the block is often crippling, I try and do some planning stuff instead, or incidental stuff.
For Questers, I have Family Trees, Maps, Poems written by a character, letters from characters to others, spin off short stories, what the film script would look like...
I've done all kinds of things to get something done. And if in doubt, I plan.
"Make Xana more likeable" That was a fun planning session. I spent hours trying to figure out how to make my character more likeable. My best friend hated her and i want her to be appealing. So i brainstormed all kinds of ideas to make her less annoying.
In the end, I gave her hideous scarring (cos you can't like someone if they're prettier than you), and clumsy (cos most clumsy people i know are likeable). And something else, but it's so intergrated into the character now that I can't remember what it was.
I wish I could write every day, but with my action packed place to place lifestyle, I simply don't have the time.
Everyone: Perhaps if I spent less time on Obernet, I'd have time to write.*
*Out of corner of mouth*: Shut up!!!
I need to have at least half an hour before I can clear the Block, and then I need several hours to get it done.
A lot of peeps say you shouldn't listen to music while you write, but I find it helps get me in the zone. What about you peeps?
