I thought it was great, but i do have to say i was a bit dissapointed with it.... The kids acting was way better and so was the script but.... Did anyone else sense that it felt different from the other movies? I thought the first ones really felt like harry potter, but with this one... i dunno. It must be the different director.. and the music??? And they cut too much out of it and changed it... *sigh* I dont think it helped that this was my fav book... But i still loved it and will see it again and again

Well they had to put a big book in a short time but I didn't loike the second one at all it was just a little not HP but the first I loved this one wasn't bad but it could have been a bit better.

I must admit that while the third book is also my favourite, I haven't read it in a long time, so I wouldn't have picked up some of the bits they changed or left out. I didn't think much of the first two. The second in particular was a big disappointment. They put so much in it was an overload of information and made the film disjointed. I thought the script was terrible, and by the end I felt that if there was enother deep, emotional scene with Harry and Dumbledore I was going to be sick. It didn't help that I was disappointed with the portrayal of Dumbledore. I think this one swung a bit too much the other way (I can't forgive them for leaving out the explanation about Wormtail, Moony, Padfoot and Prongs), but on the whole did a better job. There was also a darker feel to it I liked. Gary Oldman and Emma Thompson were both fantastic. Remus wasn't quite the way I'd imagined him, but he was good. And Buckbeak! He was so beautiful and cool! So, yeah, on the whole I was impressed. Remember it was a two hour movie. They couldn't have put much more in without cutting other bits. I wish they'd make Ron a bit more than comic relief. He's not so much in the book. By the way, if you like fanfic and are a Draco fan, then check out this. www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Cassandra_Claire/

Totally agreeeing! About it all! But yes Lupin i thought would be older! Dtill all good in this one. Emma's Character much better. One thing I noticed was that they hardly wore school uniforms. I wish they would've shown more of hogsmead. oh well Still worth seeing!

I loved it. It was different to the others and they missed heaps out but I think the characters and actors are a lot older and better. ;D I didn't like the second one really at all. This one has certainly redeemed HP in my eyes. It did move very fast but so much happens and as you say it was already a 2 and a half hour movie so if they added any more it would go for ages. Although I didn't really notice that it was going for a long time. I think I wouldn't have minded another half hour if it allowed them to explain the Wormtail, Moony, Padfoot and Prongs thing. Loved Emma Thompson. She was BRILLIANT. And she scared the bejeezers (sp?) out of my friend when she suddenly tapped Harry on the shoulder in her tranze. Jules was the only person in the entire theatre to scream and the place cracked up!!! It was really funny I'm so going again once exams are over Squarmi

Ok since this is the Spoilers thread.... They left out way too much for my liking. I can't forgive them for not telling Harry that his father was a co-maker of the Marauder's map... they didnt even tell him that his dad is an animagus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pigwidgeon wasn't eve introduced and the lupin/werewolf was sooo bad, it looked like a taller shaved gollum, it didnt even have a tail! And what was up with the choir at the start of the movie? There were just so many things that were not very good, but it actually managed to come together and is an ok film. I really didn't like the way they portray Malfoy as being a snivelling fool, especially around Hermione. I know he is awful and weak, but especially when he has Crabbe and Goyle with him, he is soooo awful and would never have shrunken away from Hermione, someone who he considers to be so beneath him. Yeah, well thanks for putting up with me, I've had my rant about HP... lot more I could say but I'll leave it there before I get too heated up :S

My rant. Be warned. I hated it. Alfonso Cuaron is now on my hit list. Ok, Prof. Trelawney was good, I like it that Dumbledoor seemed a little crazier like he's meant to be, the kids seem to have grown into their parts, and Sirius, Lupin and Pettigrew were believably 'them'...but please. It probably doesn't help that I just read the book this week. The stag patronus only appears for a moment - the rest of the time it's just a shield. In the time that the whomping willow took up shots bludgeoning bluebirds, they could have explained the marauders to Harry. Doubtless, the creators thought that anyone who was seeing it would know the storyline. Hence it's just a ploy to make money, not a tribute to the story. It felt like...I was watching an advertisement for the book, not a movie. Meaning (as Emerald said in her first post) that it didn't flow. Rather than leaving out entire sub-plotlines like the first two (nevertheless making us mad) to make it tell one part of the journey, they tried to cram as much as possible in, and screwed up the order of things, the people involved, and the history behind it. If I hadn't have read the book I would have been completely lost. I know you can't fit much into a 2 and a bit hour movie. It was just very poorly done - they had SUCH a good story to go from and they SCREWED it up. I went with 3 other people. One is a fan - and is also disappointed...more befuddled. How could they have messed up such a great story? All the hard work had been done by JK Rowling. Another hasn't read them, and devoured a bottle of wine during it rather than watch it. The third fell asleep when Harry fell off his broom in the game with Hufflepuff, and woke up when Lupin turned into a (blue with no tail) werewolf. I guess my expectations were too high again. (This is why Obernewtyn must NEVER be made into a movie!!!!)

"Wow! Who would've thought Lord Voldemort would turnj out to be Harry's father?"
Was SERIOUSLY tempted to walk past the waiting line outside, saying that, but decided it was beneath me.
Now... Let me begin by saying that I am a die hard HP fan, and I expected the movie to be a little different. Now, many of you will kill me for saying this, but...
I really liked it!!!
Yes, I KNOW it wasn't exactly true to the book, and PoA is my favourite too.
But I thought it was true in spirit. It was DARKER than the first two, which is excellent. I was really worried about the PG, that they might cut something out. The dialogue was SO much better. They brought in some of the tension between Ron and Hermione (*nudge nudge*) and I can now stop protesting against the casting of Gary Oldman. A good Sirius, I thought. Slightly mad, but also just a REALLY REALLY nice guy!!!
Lupin turned out well, (and he was a werewolf as portrayed in ANCIENT depictions, incidentally) but I personally would have cast him a Pettigrew the other way round. Oh well, they both turned out fine!
Buckbeak was cool! Hagrid is still cuddly! And I like this Dumbeldore better (except for the slight Scottish accent)
Don't thinkwe saw enough of the incidentals (Yay Neville!!!), and I disagree with you Talisha that Malfoy isn't a snivelling little weed. He is, that's why he DOES have Crabbe and Goyle to back him up all the time.
And what is the deal with Malfoy's hair???
YES!!! ENTIRELY AGREE ABOUT THE LACK OF EXPLANATION, IE: ANIMAGUS, THE OLD FRIENDS AND THE MARAUDERS MAP, BUT I'M WILLING TO FORGIVE IT.
In conclusion: I liked it!!!
(However I AM easy to please!)
Later ya'll Kayt Sel Liantuy
PS. Go Hermione!!! So much less annoying now!!! PPS. Emma Thompson GREAT!!! Yay Emma!

Nice to know someone agrees with me. It was a shock going from reading Draco fan fic to seeing the film portrayal of him. But that's just the way fanfic messes with your mind.
It's always a pity about the incidentals (good word), but I was pleased that Fred and George got a bit more to say and do this time.
Gary Oldman! Eeeeeee!
Did anyone else find the intertextuality and movie references cool? There was masses of it, but I'd have to watch it a few more times to get them figured out. Titanic, Shrek, Neverending Story... there were more, but I can't remember.

ok well im bak...and a little on the movie. i thought it all fit in, and flowed. but was just for show. the diolog was all to confusin with too much left unsaid for what was siad - if that makes sence! the only bit i REALLY didnt like was when harry and hermine where riding the creature dude (whose name has escaped me), and harry was explainin how it wasnt his fatehr but him that he saw! now i thought that was a bit much -way too obvious and didnt fit with the rest of it. hermine not smart! not getin somethin! come on! anyway ill leave it there...

All in all it was a good movie better than the first two! Still think Sirius would have looked different. One thing I didin't like was how HArry and Hermione when back in time did things they didn't do like throw rocks and distract werewolf lupin A little out of the book butall else was good like the slapstick comedy.
