hehe.
I would dispute that Dameon is perfect. Nobody that quiet can be trusted to be perfect and while Dames may be aiming for canonisation, you can rest assured he doesn't always think lovely thoughts. It's not just because he loves Elspeth that he shields himself **grins wickedly**

As I said before Dameon is too perfect-are you sure he is human?
Rushton has faults like a normal person, and people say he is arrogent! I mean, who wouldn't be arrogent when you are like a king. Hey, if he is a king Elspeth would be a queen. She is so lucky!
Anyhow-RUSHTON ROX! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think the loveliest loveliest thing about Dameon is that he's blind... the point is, I suppose, that out of 'imperfection' flows 'perfection'. Out of imperfections of the body, out of experiences of persecution blah blah, flows an awareness of the needs of the oppressed, and an ability to empathise with them, which brings you closer to being a better person.
which is meant to be the whole misfit plight anyway. Dameon is like a lovely, blind, shining metaphor for everything the misfits stand for. *Sigh*
I think Dameon probably has his weaknesses but he's aware of these and fights against them - and this is what makes you a good person. Go Dameon! Love him!

It's a question of need really... Elspeth says she needs Rushton like bread and water but the absolute truth is she doesn't. Why, he was completely forgotten for half of her quest in the Keeping Place! Who did Elspeth's thoughts turn to whenever she needed help? Dameon! She steals herself away in towered rooms to read his letters, she collapses into his arms when the going gets tough.
What can Rushton offer Elspeth that she doesn't already have? She says he's a leader and a great public speaker... but we've seen at the Rebel conclave that she is equal to to the task. All she needs is the confidence and someone to distract her from maudlin thoughts. But Dameon can offer these things. and more.
Just like Rushton he can give Elspeth confidence, courage and determination. More importantly, he offers her emotional support that Rushton never could. Dameon is an empath, he can show her an entirely new perspective of the world. He can teach her something she needs. Rushton may seem to be on equal footing now, but what happens when her quest draws to an end. Is leadership, charisma and fight all that she will need?
Rushton needs Elspeth more than she needs him. There's no doubt that he loves her to bits but Elspeth loves them both and Dameon has the best cards in his hands.

*shakes fist at all of the Dameon supporters* Dameon has a big nose. I so agree with Rosie, Rushton has faults so he can become moulded into the perfect person.
