Lix, have you explained this to him - that you need his loyalty to you? This sort of thing happened recently in my social circle - a friend started hanging out with another friend's ex boyfriend (who totally trampled her heart) and the first couldn't help feeling betrayed...once something was said, the second hadn't meant anything by it and stopped straight away. I came here to rant about Telstra. They're so evil. They've got a 'we will charge whatever we want because we are the rulers of the phone world and we can' attitude. Does anyone know of a phone company that totally rules telstra out - meaning, I don't have to pay $30 a month for a home phone line that I only use for internet - or do they all charge for the lines? Then any calls on top of that. It's ridiculous...it's a STATIC LINE. It was PAID FOR ON INSTALLATION. WHY DO YOU KEEP CHARGING ME FOR IT WHEN YOU'RE DOING NOTHING TO IT? Bah. And Energex. Why why WHY is ambulance included as a 'flat rate' (but variable whenever the government feels like raising it) in the ELECTRICITY bill? Doesn't anyone stop to think about this - when ambulance was seperate, I'd pay what, $60 for a year?? Now it's about $90 a year, and I never use it anyway. No one thinks of people who live by themselves I've told everyone at work that next time we have a User Group meeting, we can drink as much as we want - we'll just call the ambulances to take us home. Work has to pay for ambulance as individuals, then as part of the business electricity bill. Some of my colleages with holiday homes have to pay for the ambulance 3 times!!! And can we do anything about it?! NO. THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY!!! *hates Government*

I'm confused, Min. What is an ambulance doing in your electricity bill? Maybe I should check mine more closely... although, come to think of it, the people downstairs get the bills, so perhaps they have an ambulance down there that WE'RE PAYING FOR. Um, sorry about that. It's almost my lunch time - I must be dizzy from hunger. I'd like to complain briefly about the bursar at my work. She totally stuffed up my pay last year and landed me with a twelve hundred dollar tax bill. I don't like her very much. [ end understatement ] I feel better now.

Grrr at Buneater's accounts lady. That's awful. I thought paying back $40 was a gip.
I think the ambulance on the energex bill is a QLD Govt initiative, not Federal. Lucky Queensland. It's so stupid. They're forcing everyone to have ambulance cover basically - because if you just pay for your electricity and leave off the ambulance amount, they cut your power off!! How RUDE!

Aah, I see! All is understood. I thought it was something like that. How nasty of them to lump it on the electricity bill. What happens to struggling families who can barely afford an electricity bill as it is? Still, ambulance cover is a good idea (as long as you're not blackmailed into getting it). I was thinking about getting it the other day, ironically.

Yes, I agree ambulance cover's a good idea. I don't agree with making it a flat rate for every HOUSEHOLD though. They don't stop to think about the single people who were paying near to nothing before are now paying the same as a family. Or that people with a business, home and holiday home (not rich, just people like my colleagues who have worked very hard for what they have) have to pay for ambulance 3 times - on all three power bills. I don't see why businesses have to pay it when everyone who works within that business already has to pay their personal one.
Anyway, my new law stands - next time I go out for a night with the gals I'm not paying $25 for a cab - I'm calling an ambulance.

You've raised a very good point! The QLD system is sh!thouse! WARNING: This is a VERY long and boring rant... I suggest you stop here! The problem is that everybody has to fork out so much money for the ambulence system for two main reason 1. The whole ambulance business is VERY poorly run 2. Old people use it as a taxi 1. Nodby at the ambluance seems to know how to run a business because the government has been paying for it for years... Truck loads have money have gone into the system and now they decided that there wasn't enough so energy paying people have to pay more for it... I'm not saying the ambulance shouldn't be there and shouldn't be funded but there are ways of running GOOD business and getting the jod done. Not letting money leak out all over the place until it almost shuts down and crisis meeting need to be had... 2. Old people literally use it as a taxi service... Especially now there are no up front costs... There are so many old people who misuse the ambulance service that response times have blown out by some extraodinary rate putting the lives and welfares of those who need the service in emergencies at risk. Plus they have had to expand costing more money... It's just not good enough! I don't have many things against old people but I've been treated pretty poorly in my time in customer service by them and I hate beening looked at everytime I go into a shop like I'm going to steal something or put in it into my bag... Now thats something I could REALLY REALLY rant on about but I'll stop now.... I blame all things bad on the stupid QLD state governement!!!!!! It's just not GOOD ENOUGH!!!!

Another long rant post!
Precisely, Glynna. The QLD government is again taking advantage of the hard-working lower-middle working class by making ambulance compulsory, because they're being misused by the old-folks.
Fair enough, old people are the most frequent users of the ambulance servicies. They have done their time as lower-middle-slight upper class workers. It's being abused by them. But they're old, and we should respect and take care of them. The second most high users of ambulance services are drug abusers though. People our age who aren't working, who are over-consumers of alcohol and other drugs. Please nobody take offence by this, this IS a rant thread.
I just feel hard done by. Every time I get a pay rise or promotion, the government takes more off me. It's as though they're determined to keep everyone exactly where they are now, financially speaking. You work harder, and you'll be in the same spot you were years ago. It makes me question why I even bother trying, if not simply for pride's sake. Last year, I got a $800 tax return. This year, I earned $8000 more than I did last year, but I got a $40 tax debt. It doesn't make sense. One day it's (unfortunately) going to be more financially viable to be a dole bludger than a hard working 30-40 grand per year worker. The government PREY on ppl like us...those without enough power to make a difference, but with the pride enough to work...bah.
Something has to give...honestly, if I were brave enough, I'd get out of Australia all together...Scotland seemed so much better...

You could try Ireland, perhaps, Glynnavyre. Their Gaelic football is very similar to Aussie Rules...

Okay, this may very well be the weirdest thing anyone has ever said on these boards (and that includes SusRid):
I wish I had an ear infection.
So I wake up yesterday morning and I can't hear a thing out of my right ear.
I've had trouble of that sort before, and the solution is simple: go to the doctor and get it drained. No such luck, too late to call doctor. Will have to ring later and make an appointment for Friday.
But then it started to hurt! Oh no! Could ear be infected???
So when I got home from work (where I had a meeting that I couldn't hear a word of), I called the doctor. "Sorry, he won't be in tommorow".
So I called the Health Service a Uni. "Sorry, nothing free til Tuesday the 19th" BUT IT'S URGENT! "Sorry!"
So, still hurting like hell, I call the local Medical centre, who agree to take me at 9:00 in the morning.
This morning, ear hurting like hell, I went to the Medical Centre. In the rain. It was cold (bad for my ear) it was wet and yuck!
They made me wait AN HOUR!
Then she looked in my ears, said there was nothing infected and I'd have to get them drained. No she can't drain them now. The wax was too hard. (My doctor has always told me this is rubbish. You can still drain the ear if the wax is hard. It'll take longer and it hurts a bit, but you can do it) So she said I'd have to melt the wax with ear drops and then come in next week to have my ear drained.
Yeah, like I'm REALLY going there again, even if I'm dead!
So they charged me sixty bucks, and I STILL can't hear, my ear STILL hurts!
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, poor Kayt. That's completely crummy. I can't believe medical people make you wait in obvious pain and discomfort. Come back next week? You can only hope the tables will be turned on them some day.

Hehe - watch-marks are pretty permanent things. I have some of the palest skin in the world, and I still have a watch-mark underneath.
But back to business:
