Hey all, I have a website on geocities, but it's so big now I'm a bit worried about it all suddenly disappearing and not being able to upload it all again. I've basically uploaded heaps of pages, then updated some of those pages, so I'm not entirely sure wot I have backed up on disk. So, can anyone offer an easy way of downloading all the stuff I've uploaded? Like, other than visiting each page separately, going to "view source" to save the html version of it? I've looked around the geocities buttons but I'm not exactly sure wot I'm looking for... At worst I'll just have to visit every page, but I'm just a lazy git looking for a faster way Cheerio, Lauren P.S. GO VISIT THE 2 VEGGIES! www.geocities.com/the2veggies/veggies.html Three years, 160 chapters, and counting...

I'm afraid I don't know of any easy way, Lauren. I'll have a look later today, but I'm pretty sure you'll just have to go into each file and copy and paste it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad and tedious news.

No worries, matey, I suspected as much anyway :-)
And is it just me standing on my head, or is your userpic upside-down...? (I like, I like!)
Fred :-)

Hehe - yeah, it turns upside down from time to time. I wanted something that suggested ridiculousness in a subtle way. Glad you like!

FTP works. I think if you have Windows 98 SE up to XP you can create a network folder (unless your geocities is www.geocities.com/... you have to pay for the upgrade to us it) the Australian site works with FTP. It fast, esay and you can copy the stuff from that place to your PC like any other folder. the Australian Geocities FTP is ftp.au.geocties.comthen imput you user name and password when promted and away you go

Wow! That's fascinating - I didn't know about that. Luckily, I keep an exact duplicate of my sites on my computer as well as online, but should something befall my computer, well then, it's good to know about this stuff!
Unfortunately, I think Lauren's on a www.

Sometime development programs such as Frontpage and Macromedia Dreamweaver are able to access FTP and it is alot easier through them because the server times out a bit when using a brouser or network folder.

An extra thing to add that I have remembered is that you can save a .htm/.html file by clicking on file and then save as (This is in IE but I thing other browsers have something similar). Clicking this will save it in a location of your chose without having to open the sorce. This could help you a little bit.

I guess the other thing you could do in IE is bookmark the page, and select Make this page available Offline. That way, you can make it download all the linking pages and images from the one you are viewing to yer puter, which you can then move from whatever silly directory IE puts it in... Theoretically anyway, I've never actually used that meself as I usually just use FTP. But I guess it would work...?

FTP is the way to go. I'll recommend the ftp program that I use: WS_FTP. Since I've gotten it, I think they've started charging for it, so if you want the install appi for free of the version I have, email or PM me. Alternately, go to download.com and do a search on FTP programs.
All you need to do is open the program while you're on the net, and you can transfer files between your hard drive and the server where you're internet files are kept.
If you need any help with it let me know and I'll give you a better rundown...
