YES! I was just going to start thread wishing everyone a happy Chinese new year, but since we shouldn't clutter up the boards too much, I shall do it here instead.
Technically it's New Year's Eve tonight, which is when all the really big celebrations happen anyway. Traditionally, you spend the actual New Year's Day sleeping off the massive amounts of food you've eaten the night before and going around to neighbours, wishing them a prosperous New Year. And don't forget to eat fish everyone. In Chinese the word fish sounds like luck, so it's believed if you eat it, you'll get luck the rest of the year. Also, we're meant to get new clothes...but alas, my parents are letting this finer point of our heritage slide. Damnation! But yes, prosperity, health and happiness be yours good Ober.netters.
So: HAPPY NEW YEAR!
...just, uh, don't go around buying fireworks and setting them off in front of your homes. I got out of a cab in China once and fireworks were going off right next to me! I could feel the sparks drifting down into my hair, my precious hair. ;D
Also, if you were born in the year of the Dog (1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946), WEAR RED UNDERWEAR! This will increase your luck! Do iiiiit.

Thanks Arctic Firefox and the always lovely Rigel! And hurrah for chocolate mousse! *saves it for later as I'm currently rotund from excess New Year food* And I am a tiger Cat, but my parents say that since I was born on the last day of the tiger year and at 4 am in the morning, I'm really just a little baby tiger who's been woken up too early and is always grumpy. Hmmph, they take so much majesty out of it.

My friend doesn't believe me she's a snake. She's born on the 3rd January 1990, but while it's in the new year for the western calendar, it's the old year for the Chinese one and she's a snake.
Although, when I say doesn't believe me it's more she doesn't want to be one...

I want to get a horoscope that says "Quite frankly, whatever happens this year is either your own damn fault or out of you control. Don't screw it up. Especially don't screw it up and blame me, it's still your own damn fault." or something along those lines, but maybe I'm the only person interested in hearing that...

I'm the editor of our school magazine and people basically fight over who's going to do the horoscopes, and they don't even make them funny!

So was my grandma, which is why when I went to China she gt a cool thing with a tiger on it and mum didn't get one cause she's a pig and they were ugly. I was actually going to buy the tiger anyway, and then I worked out Grandma was one, so I got them to put her name in it.

Yeah, sure why not? It's only a superstition, so you don't have to wear it every single day of the year, but if you're feeling in need of some extra luck on certain days and you've got some red undies handy, I suppose it won't hurt right? Whenever someone mentions Chinese horoscopes, especially the dog sign, I always think of this Japanese anime called Fruit's Basket. It's mainly because the 'dog' (Shigure) in it is extremely amusing and somewhat attractive, oh god I'm going to fangirl hell for this *slaps self* ;D

wow, that is scary. i have a twin brother but that doesnt count. he's probably a different ascendent to me. i was born at bout 7 am and he was born at about 5 to 7. before u a girl who used to be a good friend of mine was the closest person i knew to my age. she was born on the 16th October 1982. She's still the person who was born closest to when i was born that is in the same part of the world/country, besides my twin brother. what time were u born, maybe we were born at around the same time seeing as i was born in ireland. when i was reading ur post i wasn't sure that i hadnt written the start of it after the quotes, cos it was so uncanny. i had to check the name of who posted it again. rooster is 5pm to 7pm. the time difference at that time of the year is about is bout 9 hrs ahead of ireland. so, i was born at 7 am. 7 + 9 equals 12. so u were born about 5 to 7 hours after me.
