So. How did everyone's votes go? Everyone happy with Bernard Fanning at #1? I would have preferred others, but at least it wasn't Wolfmother (no offence to the fans) ... not my favourites.
There were some weird ones amongst the 100, though. What was that "I'm Postmodern" song? Not exactly, uh, vintage stuff.
My tip for the winner of 2006's poll: The Whitlams! With a double album coming out next month, there's sure to be something there to repeat the efforts of No Aphrodisiac (which isn't their best song, IMO).

Most of the songs I voted for got in there somewhere so I was pretty happy... I was actually discussing this earlier today with my friend who hates Bernard Fanning and she was os annoyed he got no !. I personally thought Wolfmother would get 1 with Mind's Eye but I was still happy with teh result. I cant remeber exactly what I voted for- but i think the only songs I voted for that didnt get in there was This Modern Love- Bloc Party and maybe a Ben Lee song I voted for.....

I can hear Franz Ferdinand playing at the Melbourne BDO, even though I'm over a kilometre away. They just finished "The Dark of the Matinee" and are starting "Take Me Out" The sound quality isn't too bad from here, actually!

I know so many people going to the big day out. It's not fair! OK, only two... I'm not a huge Triple J person, but I thought the top 5 sucked, the Gorillaz twice, and Ben Lee and Bernard Fanning, but aside from that, it wasn't too bad. I'll probably buy the CD of it.

Hey, Artic Firefox, we must live pretty close to each other then! Not that I'm in Melbourne atm, I'm visiting my parents in Tassie, but I would have heard it had I been at home

Well, yes and no - I'm at my father's at the moment ... I actually live down in the Bayside area. But yeah, must be in a relatively close radius! It was quite noisy, I have to say - only FF sounded any good. The White Stripes sounded terrible, and I actually like their music a lot! *eerie thought* You haven't lived in this area all your life, have you? I went to primary school (PHPS) and a couple of years of high school (PHSC) here before moving to NL ...

Nope, I'm originally from Hobart. I only moved to Melbourne about 5 years ago for uni. I was surprised at the number of songs in the Hottest 100 this year that I had actually heard before. I used to love my JJJ but don't really listen to any radio station at all anymore..

So, no one shares my happiness at the Gorillaz making the top 5 twice? I wouldn't call them commercial - ex-Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder sings along on Dare, and the Happy Mondays were one of the most anti-commercial bands in history. Plus, Blur was dead anyway; I'm glad Damon's moving on to more experimental fusion music.

Said it before, will say it again - Team America got 52 ;D Was happy with that.
Question. Does anyone actually know people who like Bernald? I don't really care about him, but almost everyone I speak to has this avid hatred of him. Why? And if so, how did he get #1?

I discussed this with my friend and apparently he has a huge fan base in QLD- maybe you could elobarate on that Min??? I think basically he got all his powderfinger supporters and his new Solo artist supporters and they all voted for his songs. He only got 2 songs in the top 100 so maybe the voters concentrated on those tow songs- he got #1 with Wish You Well and about #14 with SOngbird. SO basically, I think they all voted for those songs. Whereas, Wolfmother got 6 songs in and thus, the voting was more spread out. Does that make sense???

Songbird was even worse than 'Wish you well'. But yeah, that's good reasoning

Well I remember that Will Anderson once said to Bernard Fanning that if Powderfinger were to s**t in a bucket, people would still vote that number one in the hottest 100, so I'm guessing that amongst the Triple J following, the Powderfinger fans are pretty numerous. *shrug* I hated My Happiness myself but you know, why rage against the masses when it makes no difference? I'm really glad Sarah Blasko's Flame Trees made the list at number 15 though. ;D

Is it perhaps because Powderfinger are Australian that they're a bit overrated? Triple J seem to pay a bit too much attention to local bands, in my opinion. Sure, Aussie music should be supported and all, but it isn't always the best. I get the feeling that were Powderfinger from the UK or US, they wouldn't have won the Hottest 100 so many times. Their music (from what I've heard) isn't exactly groundbreaking. But then, something like 80% of my collection consists of albums by British artists, so I'm biased

I'm just glad that The Living End made it into the list. They've had at least one song on the Hottest 100 list for the past 9 years, it'd be horrible if they didnt this year

Yeah, I love the Whitlams, though I still haven't got all their albums. You see, I left Australia just before Eternal Nightcap was released so I didn't discover them until I returned for holidays in 2002, around the time Torch the Moon was released. I really liked "Fall For You" and bought the single. At the airport I found Love This City and from then on I tried to get as many albums as I could. However, the Netherlands didn't have any with the exception of a very dusty copy of Eternal Nightcap, so I still have some collecting to do! The new album comes out this month, right?

Also, Triple J started off as a station based around the promotion of Australian music; apparently they played a bit of Skyhooks stuff even when they were immensely popular. Which explains why there are so many Aussie bands in their Hottest 100 poll and why artists like Ben Lee and Powderfinger, who aren't considered to be genuinely "alternative" (although who can tell these days?) received such high placings on the list.
