I don't know if any of you have had this on your news, but around 6.30am on sunday morning a huge explosion took place at the Total fuel depot at Hemel Hempstead in England. The explosion blew out the windows of neighbouring homes and offices and was heard as far away as the netherlands! 42 people were injured, the heatrow flightpath had to be diverted, two motorways were closed along with a number of schools and minor roads. People in neighbouring streets were evacuated. The fire brigade have said that this is the biggest explosion of its kind in the UK and Europe, and they are not sure exactly how long it will take to put out. The smoke cloud has even appeared on our satellite weather maps for today! You can read more here: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4520430.stmThere's a link to some pictures on the right of the page

Yes, we've heard about it, as much as we've heard about the sydney thing. It's everywhere. Does anyone know what caused it yet? Paul's worried, apparently his sister works near a large fuel depot, but I'm sure we would have heard something from her if it was the one. 6:30am on Sunday at least meant that no one was working/around, right?

Yeah, we saw it at the very end of the news and then later on my brother (who hadn't watched the news) came down and told us and because he saw on the net he knew which ton it was and then Mum was freaking out. Our family lives near there (Dad's sister and then Dad's sister's husband's parents live REALLY near there) so then we ended up calling Dad's siter and talking for ages. None of them were hurt or anything, so it's all good on my family's front...

Well, it looks like the fire's almost out. They've just got the largest tank to work on now, which they hope will be out this afternoon.
Whats really annoyed me is that there have been reoprts of looting! People have to move out of already damaged homes, and then other people just smash their way in and take stuff!! People who do that should be shot!!!
Min: At 6.30 most of the surroundin area would be quite, but they'd still have workers on the site, 24/7. I think the most severe injuries were due to smoke inhallation, with minor stuff caused by flying glass.
Cat-Eyes: Glad your relatives are ok
