It was in the Da Vinci code thread where i thought why not have a reigous discussion?
religions a pretty big thing in society and the people here are more often than not highly educated and very literate so should be able to come up with many intersting points.
lately ive been noticing quite a few people around me going to church with more regularity and taking up the 'christian' way of life, im at the end of year 12 and well maybe its some peoples way of trying to find some comfort in the fact that theyll soon be on their own, or maybe im just noticing more things.
what are your beliefs? dont hold back, lets put some heat into this thread

lol ok I'm an athiest, and not one who says that to be contraversial or nething. I have always had extreame cynicism when it came to organised religion and though i like some unorganized religious/ spiritual beliefs about life after death etc, i choose not to believe them. I just started uni and have found the same thing, the christian community in my old school was basically non-existant but here it's massive! i think for ppl our age it is a security thing, coz almost every uni has its own christian union, which means u'll have more chance of making friends and being involved in things.

im also an athiest. I was put off religion at school, when it was forced upon us.
I have no problem with religion, and respect peoples rights to believe in what they want

hmm well for me i was born into a pretty strict Roman Catholic family and my grandma was like almost a nun except she had 8 kids so that thing didnt work out, neway she went to like places as a missonary and was one of the first white women in New Guinea, so ive also had pushing from my whole family to be religous.
I went to a strict religous school in my primary years and we attended church almost everyday, i was christened, went thourgh confirmation, reconciliation and had my first holy communion wen i was 11. so i guess religions been part of my whole life.
yet even wehn i was a little kid i could never beleive what we were taught or that the things the bible said were true. i dont really know why i never accepted it, maybe my parents who didnt seem to force me into it as much as others and maybe the fact that im not really willing to simply accept things, and i always have to question them. and after questioning many parts of the bible and the things i was taught i just couldnt believe what they were trying to say.
some people ive talked with say that its simply the bible that my religion folows that is wrong and that their religion is the full truth. this is one reason i think many christian religions are not the way to go. lol
theres a group of people at my school and they're all devout "christians" and also some of the really 'popuar' kids and they will have parties and invite people and attempt to convert them to their way, now for me that's kinda scary. because a person should be able to look at something and decide whether or not they believe in it not whether they should becuase they're told its better for them.
it was only a few hundred years ago whne if you said you werent christian or if you didnt folow the main religion, you could be killed for being sachreligous. being forced into something is terrible and having wat you believe in your heart being forced this way and that just isnt fair. the terrible things that have been done in the name of religion; the crusades where thousands upon thousands of people were killed simply becuase they wanted the town jesus was killed and supposodly burried in. all the religous groups that wanted the place had very similar beliefs with only small, sometimes important, details being changed.
man religion really gets me kinda annoyied at times, people killing each over because of silly little things like what one person can where, or whose whose son.
religions crazy, but belief isnt, belife helps people to get through troubles and to find the light at the end of the tunnel, its wen religion gets involved things start going haywire
thats me done for the night

Mooooved. It kinda doesn't belong in the Library... Pat, pleast read the forum descriptions and post threads in the appropriate area. Oh, I'm an atheist, btw. P.S. Topics like this sometimes have a habit of becoming a bit nasty. So, just as a warning, play nice, and let's not let it get out of hand

lol. (and without mentioning any names or anything ) I'm a christain, but if you want denomination I'm Lutheran. My beliefs are rapped around my life. Reason for believing is mainly due to what I've experienced with the whole 'Great Beond' to be more generic. I'm also and infomation hoard and enjoy small part of theology (originally the study of God or The. Moden = study of Deities)

Guys, sorry, but this topic HAS been done to death here. I've bumped the other religion thread up here for you to continue on, but this one's going to be locked. Sorry.
