Hello everyone! Some of you may remember me from...about 6 weeks ago! I've been really busy, sooo I haven't had time to be on here, or posting much. But anyway, i'm back, but I'm going to France for 6 weeks on exchange! I fly out tomorrow to Paris, arriving Friday (because we go back in time), 4 days touring, then off to a host family on the west coast. And they go to the alps for Christmas. ;D So yeah... anyone who has LJ, feel free to add me: www.livejournal.com/users/tim_of_oz , I should hopefully be posting from France. See y'all in 6 weeks

Why is it that when anyone from outside Europe goes to France, they try to get people to wear berets?

Timm,
you lucky bum. Have fun! I'm going to india this january, but i'm not sure that i really want to go. PROS *i get to go overseas *i get to see some of my family on my father's side (i'm half indian) however don't speak the language and was born here. *i get to go on holiday
CONS *i have to see some of my family (i have something like 21 or 27 1st cousins alone). It's easy for them there's only 6 of us. *i miss out on 2 of my best mate's weddding cause you can't get plane tickets that allow you a 2 week stop over in india on the way to england (really have to buy seperate ticket, and that is too expensive). *there are 2 unringable rings in india and i'm banned from even fixing up just one bell to ring. (i'm a mad bell ringing).
I'm just really undecided, does anyone have any tips?

Oh my God Timm... I love France. *sniff* Remember to wear at least 6 layers of clothing, especially in January- it's even worse then than in December. Hopefully it will snow for you like it did last Xmas!

the unringable rings in india were never finished. The bells are there in their pits, they just aren't hung. My style of ringing is the english style, which means our bells swing in 360 degree circles. Ringers in general are bit mad, eg. we ring these things called peals which go for about 2 1/2 - 4 hours. you get blisters on your hands from the rope and you've got up to (in sydney) 2 tons of metal swinging above your head that you are in control of. But the weirdest thing is that we pay a rope fee do do these things. (for a local band it's only about $10) -- it just goes towards the maintainance of the bells. i hope that explained a little more. Here's a link to an animation where you can see one person ringing a bell "full circle" www.cathedral.org/wrs/animation/ringer_animation.htm
