Oh my GOD Dark one (I'm guessing you meant 2GB line ) - we have the same connection speed at work *sobs* if only I could find a way to hack into it. Although I might get fired Suddenly 256MB isn't seeming as fast as it did last week Nah, just kidding. Everything's so much faster than it was. I think half my problem was my antique modem but I've been able to do all my windows updates finally ;D

Its ok for home coas i'm not sharing the connection with anyone else. Its sometimes faster than our 1gb connection at work, cos thats shared between about 700 staff plus thousands of students. (and me downloading stuff too )

aha - oops!! Whoa, you have a load of people at your work then...we have a staff of 9, and we're lucky if we're all in the office at the same time using the internet...hence work = vvvvv fast!
Yeah...hehe, I remember comdemning Windows Automatic Updates not long ago after it crashed my machine. But work habits die hard...I've taken on making sure all the work computers are secure using baseline security analysis (MBSA) and just ended up doing it at home too...for security purposes, not for the sake of updating. Especially now I have broadband...I've already found about 6 viruses trying to get in since I got it...weird hey. Keeping virus controls up to date too!!

For work, get Sophos antivirus. We've had it for three years and not a single virus has got through in that time. We're also allowed to use it at home too!

it is odd that you haven't been infected with a virus, but it doesn't mean it can't happen. Its best to have an up to date virus checker installed

I can't see how you don't have a virus. When I set up my Laptop to the internet to get AVG, I scaned and found 32 hits, now I have none. For spyware/adware I have Microsoft AntiSpyware (BETA1) installed and it block everything else.
NOTE: yes it is M$ but it saves my regerstry from coruption which is what happened with Ad Aware by Lavasoft

use Lavasoft Adaware as well. It goes well with MS Antispyware. Both tend to find and delete things that the other can't

no where just suggesting that you keep in mind that attacks from Virus and Worms happen almost every second and that out of our experience it is best to have up to date software able to remove problems if they occor. You don't have to prove anything.

buy a cheap external firewire harddrive. That should solve the backing up problem

hmmm norton's it's ok although it is a great example of corporate money hunger. It been noted to have a 85% detection success rate which AVG free version betters with 97% detection rate. so... free.grisoft.com if you are interested <- for being a tech support person

I use AVG with great success too. Best thing is it's freeware I find that Norton constantly interferes with other programs. A lot of the time, Autodesk products will fail to run properly and the cause will be Norton stopping critical things getting through, and no way to stop it doing it.

I would like to say I love the internet, but at home my mum chose the bad internet deal We have limited downloads, and when you use all the downloads up (as I do because i download heaps of music) the internet then runs slow!! I'm sorry everyone, buts its too painfull for me to post on obernet when our internet is running slow. It just takes too long to load everything!! But at the start of every month I get my fast internet back, so I will hopefully be back posting again normally next month. Everyone who doesn't appreciate unlimited downloads should!!
