just disable it (not that recommended though). There should be a setting with it that will let MSN access to the open port

if you're using WinXP with SP2 then that should allow MSN Messenger through by default

thats usally only with Windows Firewall not third party ones such as Zone Alarm

true, but the others should have a pop-up alert when messenger tries to access the net
