I just saw an ad for it in Magpies today - the cover looks plendiferous! It reminds me very much of the cover on Green Monkey Dreams. Just had a quick search to uncover the cover (as it were). Here's a small version: At least I'll have something to read while my Timothy's reading the new Discworld book...

Oooo! Can't wait!
When we saw her Isobelle said she hoped we'd like it and that when we read it we'd forgive her for not bringing out the sending sooner!

It's supposed to be reasonably longish, isn't it? My memory is trying to convince me that the book is supposed to be over three hundred pages long, so that'll be something we can really get our teeth into. And maybe we'll forget about The Sending for a day or two, but I can't promise anything. ;D

What's it about?

There's a good blurb about it on the Penguin web site:
A tidal wave of muddled smells flooded towards me, forced its way down my throat, up my nose, through my eyes, my fingertips, choking me, blinding me, suffocating me. My stomach revolted. It punched the world out of me in a great vomiting gout, and I fell back, empty, into the silent darkness. Alyzon Whitestarr thinks of herself as more white mouse than star, until something happens that heightens her senses, enabling her to smell people's feelings, perceive their essences, and see flashes of their lives.
She is shaken to discover that some people's spirits are afflicted by a strange and ravenous disease which is both sentient and hungry for new hosts. Seeking to learn how the disease is transmitted, Alyzan's investigations lead her to a mysterious entrepreneur, a secretive group of young people with a habit of violence, and ultimately back to her own beloved family, where she will learn a shattering truth about the world . . .
Then Alyzon realises that, just as she can perceive the sickness, so the sickness can perceive her . . .

It sounds absolutely facinating!!

You know what? I think that IC chooses the best names for her character, but they're so wierd. I mean - i love the name Elspeth, but I had never heard pf it before the book. And Azylon is a beautiful name, but it's wierd.

One of my good friends in highschool was an Elspeth. But we used to call her Elpa, then somehow it turned into Elpaspeth, and then, because we all read the Ober books it turned into Elpaspethelf.... way to confuse a girl.... ;D

Hahah, thas a very interestin name for a teacher Fiery Dragon. WOOT! Firefly fan! Ahem... I'm very glad I returned here, or I'd have no clue about Azylon Whitestarr . Sounds shiny! I'm definately going to check it out. Even if it does mean I have to sacrifice one extra Serenity viewing to have enough money to buy the book... I badly need a job!

This new book sounds interesting, hey? I don't usually tend to read much of her other stuff apart from the OC and Darkfall series as in the past I ahven't liked her other stuff as much... but maybe this time I should actually give it a go? You're right Azylon, the cover is soooo much like Green Monkey Dreams! Man that takes me back to like 1997 or whenevr it came out...ooh, excitement! as for the ame Elspeth I always thought it was a weird mutation of Elizabeth... I just assumed that after the Great White a lot of names would ahve changed their forms slightly, I mean if you run together all the sounds in Elizabeth it sounds a bit like Elspeth...

Elizabeth is the base form of the name I think...Elspeth is like the Scottish equivalent, just as Isobelle is the Spanish (?) equivalent of Elizabeth. So technically, Isobelle = Elspeth

Yeah, one could only assume You people just keep on putting "Azylon" tho! But her name is Alyzon - a version of Alison. YAY!!!!! I'm sooo excited!!! I was at Collins today and they already had the book on the shelves, so i bought it and have already read the first 12 chapters. It is a REALLY good read and i reccomend it to u all. It's also not as dark as other IC books... well as far as i have gotten neway. Just a handy hint: don't read the blub it gives away a lot. It is really cute and funny!!!! YAY 4 Alyzon Whitestarr!!!!!!! ;D
