The first half was a bit on the dull side, but the second half was great!!!
Viduka is a LOOOOOOSER!!! Come on, man!!! It's a penalty shoot out, just you and a goalie!!! The least you can do is aim towards the net!!! Sheesh!!!
Ahem... sorry. I just found his ten foot miss quite amusing...
Tehe. My dad and I had a great soccer watching evening! Was a most fabbity match (well, eventually!!! )

Although I couldn't watch it, being of a somewhat nervous disposition... Flit did give me running commentary over MSN though - a highly amusing way to learn of the matches progress!! ;D

yeah, we're not that bad, its just that we always have to compete against South America to qualify, and south america is basically the top soccer nation

Woot!! Go Aussies!!!! I was speaking to my dad at dinner, totally oblivious to the world cup game going to go on very soon and asked him " Whens the world club challenge ( the tigers play who ever won the english rugby league )and he said oh tonight in sydney..... and i went oh ok i thought it was in england !!!! my father mis heard me heh... anywho my family was divided... my father and i being of little faith of aussie soccer and my mother, of all people, having faith that we would/could even think of beating uraguay.... I completely forgot about it till a friend of mine ( a patriotic polish boy) had Go URAGUAY after his name that is was actually the wold cup game, the elimination game.... and another friend had GO AUSTRALIA after her name... so i knew we hadnt lost yet... Polish boy didnt want us to tain his precious game lmao.... ITS TAINTED NOW DUDE!! lol Lench imed me bout the game so trotted over to fox sports to see whatt he abysmal score was.... and realised we beat them by 2 goals!!! woohoo!! go us... We had a sneaking suspicion we had won cos there was heaps of car tooting on the main roads and stuff ... but we just wanted to make sure... lmao after my long winded rant bout this..... WOOHOO SOCCEROOS!!!!!

Agrees with Min's comment that Aussies will get knocked out early on. I mean, we have to verse teh fifth placed south american team and we didnt even win convincingly. Therefore, theres already four teams that can beat us out there and im sure there are a few more. However, it is good for us to actually be involved in this even if we arent that great at this given sport on a global scale. We have our other sports ie swimming etc....
Here's hoping that we go well however and

I have great faith, us Aussies kicked ass at the Olympics, the whole reason to feel stilted we didn't get in last time because we beat half the teams anyway, and yet hadn't qualified cuz we don't get as many chances to qualify as nearly every other bloody nation.
And lol, if Rigel wanted a reason to think i'm nuts i gave her enough of a reason last night
And you're right Kayt, bloody Viduka! all frigging night he was missing. My heart would have been a lot calmer if he made one of his hundred bloody attempts at the net. I wanted to strangle him when he missed that penalty... grrr....

Just qualifying for the World Cup will likely do marvellous things for the game in Australia, no matter how we go. Soccer has been struggling to be a really big sport in this country, not to mention all the internal problems the soccer federation has had in the past. This is just the sort of thing we need to boost its popularity and start developing a lot more talent.

Yayness! What an exciting game. I have hardly any fingernails left after the penalty shootout! I didn't wait to find out who got Man of the Match- does anyone know who it was? How mean were Uruguay. I read in the paper that in the tunnel they were kicking our guys and grabbing them and stuff! Boooooo!

Okay.... I only just discovered this thread and now I must be a horrid scite. I WAS AT THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!!!!!!
And I hope this will improve soccer in Australia but what the sport really needs is an injection of funds, more fields and better organisation. Local soccer is a shambles.
