So, today I had lunch with Flit, and after the discussions about a duck and an octopus and other things that are a long story, she gave me a bag, said it was a graduation present and buggered off home.
So, I opened the box in the bag, and what did I find?
Beuatiful things from the people of Obernet!!! There was a book full of letters and fascinating facts and jokes about cows and quotes from my favourite literary crushes and pretty stickers and funny and interesting quotes and various transportation tickets and lovely photos of Obernet people and also horrible photos of myself for which there will swift and painful retribution!
There was a card and a CD from Lol, and more photos and a huge collection of tickets from Min's time in the UK and a ludicrously sizeable collection of cow jokes from Fred the Lauren. All these things were in the box!
But not to forget the lovely things specifics of what were in my book! There was a lovely letter from Rillalola the Teacosy to the Lady, and a significant number of photos of shoes, for which I can only assume Flit is responsible, and photos from meets I've been too, plus photos from the Sydney Misfits which I think must have been supplied by Elixa (Sydney Misfits, you all suck for being pretty), and a gorgeous long letter from Brownie, and a very lovely letter from Blindmouse, which suprised me very much, and short notes from Lauren Masterrushton, Tegan, Wanderer, Roz, Miska, Min and Cat-Whisperer, and a card reminding me that I sponsor a tap dancing elephant at SR Plus. And there was an explanation of the whole deal from Flit.
So, I just rushed straight here to post this message and to say thankyou to all the Misfits who contributed. According to Flit's list: Catwhisperer, Masterrushton, Blindmouse, Lol, Wanderer, Tegan, Lix, Roz, Min, Miska, Emerald and Fred. If anyone has been missed, I am SO sorry and that's Flit's fault!
Also, I may as well take this opportunity to say thankyou to all the Misfits (Megana, Rilla, Fred and Dawny, off the top of my head) who sent me cards and other presents (Megana sent me a lovely elephant, who now lives next to my bed) over the last six months.
And to all the people, I can't even name you all, who over those months have sent me emails, commented on my Livejournal, checked up with me on MSN or made enquiries with Flit about how I was doing or if they could help.
And especially thankyou to Flit, for putting the whole thing together, and for being Flit.
It has all been much appreciated, and given me something wonderful to think about when I've been feeling the worst. Part of the reason I love Obernet is because everyone here cares, but I really had no idea the people of Obernet cared about me this much.
Also, while I'm here, I should report for those who don't read my LJ, that I've been given the all clear for now. I'm in remission, but I'll spend the next five years under constant surveillance. I have to drink a lot of green tea, which is very nice, and I can't drink alcohol or have anything deep fried or char-grilled (or at least, only extremely rarely). There's a great big scar on my neck, but I'm okay now. That's not to say your lovely messages come too late, because (if you can't tell the truth at Obernet, you can't tell the truth), I can't sleep and all the time I'm terrified that it'll come back. It's not much fun thinking twice before I go outside, and eating antioxidant rich foods (mostly gross) and still wondering if it'll make any difference. Or turning the TV off when a news story comes on that reminds me, and feeling sick whenever I read stories about it killing someone.
But, if it does come back again, at least I know I can go to Obernet. And when I'm depressed, I can go to Obernet.
Because trying to be sentimental makes me cringe and comes across insincere, I shall leave you with my absolute favourite of the cow jokes accumulated for me by Lauren the Fred:
What was the cow doing in the pasture with her eyes closed?
EDIT: PS. Who told Min I collect transport and movie tickets? Cos, now I'm going to have to kill you!!!
