22 years after the release of Dark Crystal, the Jim Henson Company are in pre-prodcution on a sequel. I'll post more info when i find it.

Um, I don't want to sound stupid (too late ) but what is Dark Crystal?
It's only one of the best fantasy films ever!
So, speculation. Will the sequel leave off where the original ended with the same characters and situation, or is there a possibility that there's been a time delay and we're introduced to new characters and plot? |

Jen & Kira have ruled the planet for a long time, and are now quite old, so the adventure falls to two new characters (no details yet). Augrah is to make a return, as are the Skeksis. |

They do in this new film. The urSkeks left them the land to look after at the end of the last film.
The urSkeks were the original dominant lifeforms, from before the Gelflings existed. They tried to better themselves, and in doing so, they caused the crystal to crack. This caused them to split into two new lifeforms - The urRu (Mystics) and the Skeksis.

Thanks for the info DarkOne - you really are an endless well of information! So plaesed Augrah's coming back - and the Skeksis! So there's been a split again? Good stuff. have to say I hope they come up with an new storyline and not just a rehash of the original. Altohugh I can't see it - the Jim Henson standard is usuall pretty high. I wonder if the new characters will be Gelflings or Mystics or Skeksis?! oo, a goos Skeksi...is that possible? *runs away with jibbering theories*

There's been no mention of Mystics returning.
I can't actually see how they'll be able to bring the Skeksis back. The urSkeks left for their own planet at the end of the first film, so how can the Skeksis exist, especialy without the Mystics.
I'll do some more trawling on the net and see what i can find
Edit: There's not much out there at the moment. The pre-production should start this autumn, with a relase sometime in 2007. The working title is The Dark Crystal 2: The Power of the Dark Crystal

Ha! i didn't really like David Bowie in tights the first time!
wonder what format they'll make Dark Crystal 2 in? i hope they keep it as puppets and don't go to OTT with the technology stuff. it would be nice to keep it looking like the original..

They'll keep it as puppets as thats what they do best. They may do some animatronic stuff too
