Who is Fabio, and why is he the most beautiful amn in the world? I never understood.
I have to agree, they didn't sound right. Something Romanian or Indian, since I think that's where gypsies originally came from... I think.
My grandad was Romanian and his name was Merco. But that sounds weird. lol.

of the options only fabian seems to fit, mostly cos of its similarity to fabio but yeah... swallow does seem to have a fabio complex going, kissing elf like he did, he couldve found some other reason to grab her arm, though not one half as entertaining i guess

lol these choices are quite funny i thought of Fabio as well- as soon as i read fabian. but Romani names are great, and not necessarily associated with gypsies- did you know that Elvis is a traditional Romani name?

lism38> Fabio, the most beautiful man in the cosmos, appeared on an old Aussie show called Full Frontal...I think...and it was something like wot Comedy Inc does now. It's got that chick who plays the netball in Kath and Kim - Magda or summat - don't watch it, so don't know - anyway, on Full Frontal there was a 'beautiful' man called Fabio with this long blonde hair, and he'd appear with a posh/European sort of accent and say, "I am Fabio, the most beautiful man in the cosmos!" And every skit would somehow get the characters dancing to "There was a little Spanish flea". I remember one episode where they had a dead frog wired up to some electric cables and had it dancing... So that's the story. I voted for Cyril, but was torn between that and Fabian. And yes, I thought of Fabio too... How weird is our collective mind?! FtS

Fabio is actually a real person. Full Frontal were just impersonating him. As people were eluding to earlier in this thread, he did a bunch of ads for a brand of margarine called "I can't believe it's not butter!". He was also on that 'reality' show earlier in the year where they were trying to get overweight or unfit celebrities in to shape. There's some "great" pictures of him here.

How about having his name derived from the word Swallow itself? In Latin the swallow is named Hirundo drop the "h" and you have Irundo with his half sister Iriny I think that has a nice sense of symmetry.
Interestingly in terms of the swallow as a dream image I got this definition ages ago;
'To dream of swallows is a sign of peace and domestic harmony. To see a wounded or dead one signifies unavoidable sadness.'

That's probably the best suggestion I've heard yet Rigel. See, latin's not a dead language! It can help you come up with legitimate sounding names for fictional gypsy leaders...hmmm, should probably rethink that sentence.

PMSL Fabian reminds me of "Fabio, the most beautiful man in the cosmos" So if Swallow turns up in TS saying "I can't believe it's not butter", then I'll call him Fabian. min, i love that. its.....*thinks of the right word...* *cant think so makes one up* ooggashlistic!!! pronounced just as it sounds *laughs at the ridicoulous word...hahaha* EDIT> and yes, Irundo is the BESTIEST name...im full of good words today!!
