I just finished my essay for my org psyc elective. Despite the fact I handed it in late, it was on a pretty interesting topic.
Part of I was looking at was the effect of diversity on constructive controversy.
Constructive controversy is when you have open discussion of various view points, basically it is conflict that is all aimed to the one goal. It is linked to heaps of great outcomes like satisfaction, performance, effectiveness etc.
There have been some interesting findings in the org psyc literature about this issue which basically suggests that constructive controversy is one of the key ways in which the negative aspects of diversity can be turned into positives!
Now, why on earth am I talking about my a s signment!?!?
Well, Ober is a VERY diverse group. What I'm interested in is whether you think it also has constructive controversy. So, do you think ober provides you with an environment where you can have an open discussion about everything, including ober itself and problems with it and stuff? Or do you feel like you are limited in the expression of your opinions for whatever reason? It is anonymous so vote away because I want people's true views.
And like any good research report we must have hypotheses!
I hypothesise,
1) That feeling like we have a shared goal (to have fun, enjoy, whatever) will be associated with high constructive controversy
2) that feeling like some people have different goal will be associated to unconstructive controversy
3) high constructive controversy will be associated with good outcomes (like satisfaction)
4)unconstructive controversy will be associated with bad outcomes
So have a vote and lets have a see!!
