Have you all seen the ringtone on tv that is apparently so high adults can't hear? It's demonstrated on the ad and I can't hear it! I'm only 14 (nearly my bday!!!) and I can't hear it! Can anyone else?

But it has the funny lines that indicate a sound... Cool I can hear it but can my mum? I'll let you know when she gets home... And thanks White Fyre!

no problems! If your mum can hear it, she's likely to yell at you for hurting her ears.

God, i thought that was a gimmick to get kids to spend large amounts of money on buying a silent ring tone.
But still, how silly. Why not just put your phone on silent? You can hear the buzz if you leave it in your pocket, it's not hard.
Those ads irritate the hell out of me anyway, i just want to throttle whoever invented Jamstar and all those other silly companies with their silly ads.. *continues to grumble away about idiotic ads*

haha, i just love that last little point you made there!
and i agree with you flit! very irritating. i wonder if someone will sue the company over this for just the right amount of money so they are forced to bankrupt.

If there was any hope of actually winning I would very quickly oblige... Especially since my mum has a law degree... She could sue them for false advertising because she can hear it!

The theory goes that as you get older you lose the higher end range of your hearing.
However, i can hear it (i'm 31). I can also hear bat 'squeaks' which are on the limit of human hearing.
Its the lower end of my hearing i have trouble with. Usualy its difficult for me to hear a conversation in say a pub above the background noise

well...adults aren't supposed to hear it. The idea would sell millions to naive teens that want to text during class, then they find themselves ripped off as soon as they try it. They're selling the idea and false insecurities, not the product.

I can hear bat squeaks too! I love hearing them at night. there used to be a colony near my old house, and i would hear them at night as i was waiting to sleep. Whenever i'm on camp, i sit outside and listen for them....
But also Dark One, i have such a hard time hearing with background noise. I'm atrocious in food courts and pubs i just can't source the sound.
But that mozzie sound is horrendous, and i don't think it actually sounds like a mozzie. At least not the ones i hear.

I could hear taht easily. I've got excellent hearing actually and crap eyesight. I can hear through my loud cd's, concentrate on reading a book, and still hear my mum call out to me for dinner. I can hear all the little sounds in the background, like laughs and footsteps. It's really wierd actually....but I'm used to it. My mother doesn't have to call me for dinner cause I can hear her preparing it and everything. It's also good when my siblings are b!tching about me because I can allways get them back lol

There as also supposed to be this thing they were going to have with really high sounds that they transmit around buildings where teenagers loiter to make them go away but to not annoy the adults.
Of course there is a rather huge problem in that most of the teenagers they would want to use this on probably can't hear it anymore because of the amount of loud music they've been around. Think about the people whose music you can hear from 3 cars away with your doors and windows shut as well as theirs. These are the people who would be loitering, and they're also the ones who can probably only hear people when they scream nowadays anyway.

Yeah, they tried that in the UK as well. It did seem to work in some places though
