A certain level of insanity, the ability to shrug off madness and have a serious debate in an instant, then be bonkers again.... be able to like people, get along well with others, probably a certainly level of extroverted-ness... but that might just be for when you're online.... and an ability to see characters as being real. So a pretty damn good imagination, and if that wasn't the case such debates over Rushton and Dameon would never get as heated...
Dames rules, btw....

I think an Obernetter has to be, if not a silly, random, flying camel sort of person, then someone who can laugh at those people. And they have to have an appreciation for the morals and principles of Obernewtyn.
And NO ONE is more Obernettish than any other, NIG.

Dames rules, btw.... Definitely the rushton v Dameon debates (Rushton rules!) I love the way that the site is linked to the books. I mean, you can access a silly site just about anywhere, but i like the way we all have a touchstone that links us all together

Three things: #1: The Moonfair. Love it. Really, really love it! #2: The MBT. *grugs Miska* you're a genious for being the founder of it, matey!!! Actually, everyone's quirks, like the way people only type in certain colours and stuff...I like that #3: The SR qualities - ie, the randomness that becomes long-running jokes. oh, and a #4 would be the words: grunky, nunky fine etc. And huzzah. Definitely HUZZAH! And #5 would be the piratical nature of us all. Arrrrrrr! Cheerio, Lauren

i think a major part of being obernet is an escape haven for those who are really supposed to be doing soemthing else! Marija: Excuse me! But I just finished my research proposal and handed it in so I am not procrastinating! Marija's inner self: You have to do a presentation for that proposal in a few days, don't you think you should prepare? Marija: *glare* Oh shut up! You are right Lix, how could this meaning of obernet have passed my notice

yep. i reckon thats it. and also, what makes obernet obernet is the people. you wouldnt find people like us all friends with each other on other sites!

Lots of other sites have thousands of members too, so its sort of hard for people to get to know each over. This site is good, as everyone friendly and you get to know everyone.

As evryone else has said, it's the people and the sense of community. I don't visit all corners of the site much, as you've probably noticed. I hang out on the Library page and visit the others when I have time. But I still feel part of it. Obernet is trying to stop yourself laughing hysterically at a post because you're not supposed to be using the internet at work; it's finding yourself knee deep in books because you're trying to find a particular quote; it's arguing passionally and going crazy with smiley faces; it's wonderful, geeky games; it's escaping from work, study, angst, loneliness or fear, a it's break from the stress and occasional pain of reality; it's the odd shy warmth of meeting up with people for the first time and knowing you can wear purple horns without them thinking you're too strange; it's goofiness and grugs and food food food and finding a place where it doesn't matter who you are, only what you are. It's community. That's what I think, anyway. Lol
