The Prime Minister of Obernewtyn Game, pt 1.

Guildmerge reports:

Guildleaders United today called for Rushton Seraphim to be stripped of many of his traditional powers, a move that takes their campaign to reshape the Obernewtyn heirachial system to a new level.

In their first intervention since becoming leaders over four years ago, Obernewtyn guildleaders joined forces with a campaign being waged by Dardelan of Sutrium to give parliament formal control of powers officially held by inheritors of family fortunes.

They are calling on their new democracy taskforce, chaired by Roland of the Healer Guild, to consider alternatives to the traditional "inheritance = leadership" rule currently employed. A vote for the Prime Minister of Obernewtyn will take place presently.

Guildleaders have asked misfits to focus on four specific areas when voting for a leader: who should have the right to:

· declare war and send misfits abroad;

· to make international and Land treaties;

· to make appointments and award honours;

· to make major changes to the structure of guildmerge.

"I'm a staunch supporter of Rushton and would not want to undermine him in any way,"Roland said in a speech today. "But there are many people in this Land possibly better suited to the position of Master of Obernewtyn. Is it not the Misfit's right to elect their own leader, now the threat from the Lowlands is subsiding?"

I would just like to take the opportunity to declare myself Dardelan's campaign manager. It must be my experience running Rex Ficus' highly succesful campaign that persuaded the Candidate to hire me. He hasn't written his speech yet, but he's hard at work in my closet, getting everything down perfectly.

Domick: Indeed. I am nominating myself for Master of Obernewtyn.
Roland: but...but you were a Guilden...you weren't even a guildleader like the rest of us! And - and you removed yourself from the community for the entirity of book 4! What makes you a better leader?
Domick: I am a coercer, Roland, who has lived in the real world. Need I say more?
Roland: but - *glazed look*
Domick: Exactly. Vote 1 for Domick.
Roland: *dull, droning voice* Vote 1 for Domick.
Domick: Now he's out of the way! Right. I'm the only Obernewtyn-er who's actually lived outside of the farm, as a practising misfit. I've seen the way the cities work, and if you want a reliable leader who won't take any bullying from the city-folk, I'm your man. In fact, I would be shocked if you considered anyone else for the position. Not only am I the most experienced in handling diplomatic situations, but I have always - always had Obernewtyn's best interests at heart.

I agree that you should all have a leader who is elected by you, I also believe that that leader should continue to be me!

Here here! Domick's been out there and done more for Obernewtyn than Rushton ever did! And he's probably going to pay for it even more so, I mean, he's already lost Kella.

Kangaruth: Why should a human lead Obernewtyn. Apart from anything else, they're all mad! I nominate Avra. She's done such a good job of leading the Beasts, and she isn't weighed down by stupid human ideas.

Avra: Um, well, gosh, I don't know what to say. I'd certainly do my best to make Obernewtyn a better place for everyone. I'd keep Rushton away from the pigs, anyway!
