If i said to you name countries where you'd most likely find pyramids, what would you say?
Everyone will most likely say Egypt, and Central & South America. Some of you may even mention the pyramids on Tenerife, or the pyramid found underwater off the coast of Japan.
But did you know that there are also pyramids in North America, in China, Australia and most recently discovered in Europe?
Even the pyramids and their surroundings in Egypt and the Americas still have some mysteries!
Egypt:
The Pyramid of Khufu (or the Great Pyramid) may be older than currently thought. It is the only pyramid that isn't covered by masses of heirogliphics, and may have been built or someone other than Khufu
The Sphinx may also be older than previously though. Geologists have found water erosion on the body of the Sphinx which would possibly date it as being roughly 10,000 years old.
These theories aren't currently accepted by most historians, who prefer to rest on current 'known facts'
Egypt
South & Central America
The mysterious city of Teotihuacan has thrown up some anomalies. Huge slabs of mica have been found on the Pyramid of the Sun, and also nearby. This type of mica is only found in South-America, and is similar to finds at some Olmec sites. Mica is used as a radiation sheild around nuclear reactors, amongs other things...
South/Central America
The Rest...
Tenerife
Not much is known about the builders of these step pyramids...
Tenerife
North America
There are some in Ohio, Illinois and Louisiana, with a few more dotted about elsewhere.
North America
Japan
The underwater pyramid off the coast of Japan would have been high and dry around 10,000 years ago...
Japan
China
The Chinese have known about the existance of their pyramids for a long time, but as they have been so secretive about things, we in the western world have only recently heard about them!
China
Australia
I don't know too much about this one, but if any of the Queenslanders want to go have a look and take some pictures, i'd be grateful!
Australia
Europe
These are the most recently discovered pyramids. They are covered with earth, which is why they haven't been recognsed sooner.
