Noo! I remember this, I'm sure we could figure this if we try really hard. I've tried to figure it out and i'm sure there's some mathematical reason. Ahh well *continues trying*

But the first one I got was a sun. The second was a cross. I thought it might have something to do with multiples of 9? But

Yes I have realised how it works... The symbols change each time, making it impossible for it not to work, all possible solutions will be the same symbol making it have to work. All possible answers are 0, 1, 7, 8, 9, 18, 27, 36, 54, 63, 71, 72, 81, 93, 95 and the symbols change to accomodate all possibilities, so that whatever number you choose it has to work.

Yeah, it took me a few goes to notice how it works, I just did it a few times and then worked out what they had to be through which ones were the same.

Miky: The symbols on the side change each time. See this? Now, there are only a few numbers it is possible for the answer to ever be. This is because say my number is 23 - 2+3=5 23-5=18 and at the same time for 24 - 2+4=6 24-6=18 and so on, so there are only a few numbers that it can ever possibly be, and what they do is that those numbers all have the same symbol. So if this time 18 is going to have a square all the other numbers it could possibly be are also going to be a square and when it 'reads you mind' it will be a square. It's rigged
