You all know i'm not that cluey when it comes to computers, i can work them, but i don't really know the language that well.... If you don't know already, my laptop is in repair, i think i've whinged about Alex being away long and loudly enough... anyway, they're going to repair him, which is good, that's what i wanted, but they need to replace his inverter.... what's an inverter? Can anyone help me on this? It's got something to do with its monitor. But i'm not sure what. Can someone elaborate for me, it would be most helpful!

Inverter = adapter. Something to do with current and power, like avvy said.

My laptop is in getting fixed atm too. The exact same problem happened a year ago, so I'm wondering what I'm going to do if it happens again a year from now and it's no longer under warranty. It doesn't have a name tho. I don't even know if it's a he or a she... How do I tell?

It lets you know which sex it is... for me, from the very moment i got Alex, he felt male. It took me a year nearly to come up with his name, but i knew it was a bloke. He just seemed male.
Thanks guys! I have a rough idea what went wrong. I think because the inverter was buggered the level of power going to the laptop was too high and it might have caused the backlight to burn out or something.... *shrugs* whatever, he shall be home soon, and i can feel much better.... things are so much better when Alex is around... ;D

If the inverter was delivering too much power to the backlight, then you are very lucky it didn't fry any other components!
Laptops are very tempremental. I know, co i've got to repair them nearly every day. I've now got one sitting here that seems to have a failed battery charging circuit. Its probably not even worth me taking it apart to look at it..
