I'm interested to know if anyone here knows what any scout / outdoor-ish terms are... Actually, they're not even all terms, just stuff related to scouts and outdoor and that kind of thing...
So:
1. A Trangia is what?
2. Where would you do a whipping?
3. A spar is what?
4. Lashings involve ropes and what else?
5. What is a reef knot (and sometimes a granny knot) commonly known as? Hint: Most of you would tie these every day
6. A dixie is what?
7. A camp oven is what?
8. A hike pack is also know as what?
9. What are the three (or at least two, the other one's a bit abstract) main Norths?
10. How many degrees on a compass?
Cheers, Cat

*sigh* I too would be cheating... But...I can think of some darn good answers for 2. However...they are not G-rated and will get me in trouble with TPTB.....

2) Um, in a place where people wear a suspicious amount of leather? 4) Salad dressing? Baccon? 5) Oo, I know one! Kinda. It's the same kinda knot you use to tie a sling, 'cept not sure I know what it's commonly called... slipknot? Four corner knot? 6) A blond singer with a terrible voice. 7) A place to cook sausages! And cakes and cookies and banna smoothies... 8) Um... starts out as feather light and ends up as dead weight? Can you tell I've never done guides? Well, I bought the cookies but that was about it.

guide biscuits are deliscious, and so big and round and full of chocolately goodness ;D . Well they used to be. It's at least 8 years since I was in Guides and.... 2. you do your whipping in the kitchen (mmmm... whipped cream ;D) 3. A spar is a bit of jutting out land 4. wood 5. a double knot possibly? - I don't really know, guides eat and talk we didn't actually DO anything campy except have lots of bonfires 6. dixie - what we call snobby girls (who we 'accidently' left somewhere in the bush ) Well I'm not sure about the scouts meanings - but those are Guide meanings (Mostly anyway : . When I was in Guides scouts were viewed as ikky boys who gave us hours of entertainment by being targets for water bomb attacks ;D Really, what silly person would build the scout hut right next to the Guides hut, they should have relised the temptation would be too much
