Oooh formals! I had so much fun at my Year 12 formal. It was quite a small school, so it wasn't too big, but big enough that it was easy to avoid people you didn't really like so much. Even though a lot of people still weren't 18, they were serving up the wine to everyone, no worries, and my Mum and I got really p!ssed together I even got my boyfriend at the time to dance with me, which he NEVER would do. Ooh, and I loved my dress! I managed to find exactly what I had imagined! I actually came to Melbourne wit some friends in September that year to go formal dress shopping, and I bought it from Daimaru (*sniff* all gone now). It was navy blue with spaghetti straps and all embroided on the front, with criss-crossy ribbons all up the back. No splits or anything like that, just really nice. Oh, and I wore a tiara - only because I'd just recently done a website for a guy that made tiaras and so he gave me one free. My hair was all up in curls... Although, I actually liked my hair better for my boyfriend's formal, but that wasn't nearly as fun as my own... Ahh formals... *sigh*

we're having a Formal this year... i'm probably not going coz the people running it will expect everyone to rock up wearing white wedding-type dresses!

since there was only 25ppl in my yr adn hmmm like 11 girls How did you manage to have a formal with so few people ? We keep being told that our school is too small - please tell me what you did. Maybe then I could get our student council to put the pressure on, and maybe we could have one before I leave.

we organised it ourselves...basically there was this one girl that wanted to organise it so we let her. we had it at this restarunt function center. just book for a little bit of food - like finger food nad a dj. the tickets were a bit costy cos we didnt have that many ppl. but basically she did it so we all put a deposit down so when she got final numbers she then told us the final proce of the ticket (since it would vary greatly depending on how many ppl brought dates etc). i think we paid like $45 for the ticket or soemthin. we didnt want anything fancy at all - cos that was us as i said our yr 10 one was at the surf club hmmmm what else....yea i dont no. the school had nothin to do with it really. like we truned up to the school before hand and did a little congratulations speech/cheers thingy (with orange juice) and we all recieved a pen or somethin (argh i cant actually remember wat exactly-my bad!). then the school hired a bus for us so we got to the venue and got bac kt othe school afterwards. i cant belive they're not letting u have a formal! thats like horrible! its yr 12 right?!

i cant belive they're not letting u have a formal! thats like horrible! I can sort of see their point. They haven't stopped us from having a formal, they just haven't encouraged us to. We've been REALLY small until this year. This year we actually have 20 students altogether in Year 11,12 & 13 ( I think that's the same as your Yr 10 - 12) So it would have to be for all the senior school. One of the biggest problems to overcome would be convincing the 8 boys that it's a good idea. sigh. *mumbles under breath about unenthusiastic gumboot NZ males* Still, thanks for the ideas. Maybe I'll have to be the enthusiastic one. I'll start by talking to the other girls and let you know how I get on.

lix always like a challenge tho kiwi boys are such nice people (i just keep thinking of how cool paul is!!!!)
anyway do let me no how u get on. that is a tiny yr. but remember u dont have to have it really fancy. infact if u do it really low key then the more ppl are likely to come - esp if across the yrs. u could always just organise a fancy day out. like a themed formal (so each yr has a differnet theme) that goes to say a midnight bowling session or plays against each other in mini put-put....*shrugs* but yea get someeon to be enthusiastic and itll come about

We had a disco/dance thing last weekend which was fun enough, but it was for Yr 7 - 13 and our school students only (you could bring your parents if you wanted to ).
There've been diners out at the end of the year, but never the get-really-dressed-up-and-have-a-meal-and-some-dancing kind of night.
I'll see what I can do
