Really?? They had it on in Brisbane. Of course, I was redying my hair at the time so I can't tell you what it was about They DID have about 5 minutes of space battle at the end, I was rather impressed, I've never seen Battlestar Galactica actually venture into space before

I know! The showing of Everybody Loves Raymond was just adding insult to injury, if you ask me. I can assure you - in my household, everybody does NOT love Raymond. In fact, most of us wish he would fall into a bottomless pit somewhere and take his Luds cursed TV series with him It was just lucky that BG came on at ten o' clock, because I'd just started composing a nasty letter to sned to Channel Ten... And Kayt - as long as you left about half an hour on the end of your taping session, you should be fine.

Lol... I'd begun a search of channel 10's website in order to find an easily accessible way of contacting them/screwing manically at them. It's unbelievable how worked up I got...
But yay! Minimal psychotic science guy and nymphamanical 6!

Are you all talking about the new series, or the original 70's series (which was superior in some ways!)

The new series, Dark One. I haven't seen any of the old ones although I have heard that the Cylons looked like metal toasters.

ohmigod, I LOVE battlestar! ;D I loved the miniseries and now I've watched every episode since then ;D What i don't get, is where they're all from... Did they all originate from Earth, or was it a colony? Wat was the old series? Was it about the same thing?

The new series is rouhgly based on the old series.
Sit down comfortably, and i shall begin:
There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans - they may have been the architects of the great pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lamuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive far, far away, amongst the stars. (Opening Narration for the Original Series)
The humans home world of Kobol had to be evacuated hundreds of thousands of years ago, due to it's star begining to fail. The humans found a star system with twelve habitable planets, which became 'The Twelve Colonies of Man' (named after star signs). Once landing the colonies descended into civil war and regressed in technology, taking many thousands of years to claw their way back to being star travellers.
They first met the Cylons when they went to the aid of thier neighbouring race. The Cylons then decided to wipe out humanity. The original series started from this point.
The cylons had called a truce, but it turned out to be a trap. All the battlestars but Galactica, were destroyed, and the colonies devastated. The Galactica led a rag-tag fleet of survivors towards the fabled 13th colony - Earth.

The Cylons in this series may have looked like metal toasters, but they were very cool! The original Cylons were a race of lizard people, who built the robot race to serve them. The robots turned on their masters, destroying them utterly. The original series was based on a theory that humans may not have originated on Earth, and may, in fact have come from the stars. Throughout the show they had references to ancient civilistions, such as the Egyptians, Mayans (use of their countign system), etc. It was a fascinating show that unfortuately only lasted one season. (There was a follow up show in the 80's called 'Galactica 1980', but that was terrible. If any one wants me to explain that one then please ask) The new series (which i've missed most of) is based around the form of the human body. The cylons now look mostly human (which is a way of saving money on effects). The basic premise of the Cylon attack is still there though, but none of the interesting undertones. For more info on the original series, have a look at this great fansite: Galactica: Project RestorationTrivia Note: The character Tom Zarek in the new series is played by Richard Hatch, who played Apollo in the original series.

I was quite happy it started late, since we went out to dinner because it was Mum's English cousin's last night in Australia, and we forgot to start taping until 10pm when we were like "NO!!!" and the at 10:30 I was watching the end to see when it would finish, and it finally did at 11 (and during that time in a news break the woman was like "We apologise for the technical problems channel 10 has been having" ) so then on Thursday when I watcht the tape, I'd got the entire episode! (And I'd already seen the second half, but I watched it again anyway ;D ) And unykorn, they kinda explained where they were from in the mini-series, end of the second one. I never saw the first episode of the mini-series cause I was out and Mum didn't tape it Cat

NOBODY TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED!!! We didn't watch it at all, because we didn't want to see it and then be upset by not having 15 minutes. My Mum is trying to get a copy of the full thing from someone at work.
NOBODY BLOW THE PLOT OR I'LL HAVE YOU KILLED!!! (but thanks for the offer, Buneater)
If I can't get a copy, I shall have to let ya'll tell me what happened.

Thanks for the run down Dark One.. exactly what I needed against my brother's skepticism of the Vipers' use thrust as propulsion. He didn't believe me when the colonies could have regressed.

Thats ok.
I'm asuming that the regression back stories applies to the new series, though i've missed most of it so far. I'll have to buy the DVD when it comes out later this month
