I can't say I'm very surprised about there being a movie (although until now I thought it was jsut rumour) since there have been so many other adaptations. I have heard (surprisingly) decent review of the play, although the criticism that much was left out (most of The MAber Spyglass in fact) and some character purposes/roles changed. I can't imagine how a movie would look though...like a horribly wrecked book probably.

oh well, its ok. none of you need to go and see the movie. you'll find the REAL one at writersmerge. i'll start posting the screenplay soon. it pretty much sticks to the books exactly, and you guys can suggest anything or request anything and i can try to incorporate it so that it pleases everyone! how does that sound? good? yes, i thought so!

The latest on that is that they're going to change it from exploring religious issues (which I honestly think the world should start exploring!) to more the struggle for power.
How they're going to bring in the concept of the new Adam / Eve thing in that case, and the new 'temptation'...I don't know.
If they're changing the topics to try shelter the world's religious beliefs...I mean, come on! Didn't millions of people handle it when it was brought up in the books? Why change it?

Apparently the stageplay is pretty good. A friend lent it to me but I havne't read it yet because of my no-fantasy reading diet.

I didn't know whether they might "alter" some of the themes because it may partially be aimed at children? I don't know - all I was thinking was originally Northern Lights was released as a childrens book wasn't it? Maybe in the Harry Potter style they will be made for bothm which may be a motive for "dumbing down" the ideology/ideas explored?

I also agree that there should be no reason to change it because people can't dela with it. I mean, lots of films have already been made challenging current beliefs etc - why should this one be any different?
