Jealousy that gets out of hand and convinces your best friend that he's not welcome at Obernewtyn any more? While you're none the wiser? What did Rushton think he was doing - how DARE a friend choose a woman over their friendship?!
Scenario:
Rushton: Sure Elspeth, you can roam the land, be a leader with me, be friends with Dameon, but just don't hug him or anything.
Elspeth: Why? What are you, my mother?

KSL PMSL!!! EXACTLY!! And like you said, FRIENDS COME FIRST! I'd hate to be with someone who dumped his friends for me. It WOULD make him possessive because he'd have no one but ME to hang out with. And what would be wrong with waiting a little and getting Elspeth's friendship, just as Dameon does? It's not like Elf and Rushton could call each other friends...more like business partners. Everything about their relationship is perfunctiory (shocking sp?) and businesslike. Rushton's actions will come back to bite him on the bum...just wait and see. hate to sound all "voice of reasonish", but how would you feel if you walked into a room to find your close friend hugging the girl you've been interested in for years? Especially when that friend knows it.
He knew that Dameon was interested in her as well, and he just felt a bit p!ssed off that Dameon was close to her without trying, and Rushy had been all lovey-dovey to her for a while, and she only gets twitchy around him.
that would make me pretty p!ssed off
but yeah, it still was a nasty thing to do
