In my travels through the various messages and threads, I find many people having trouble with posting images. The great red birds, the Agyllians, have often commented that none are so blind as those that cannot see and we mustn't doubt their wisdom, no matter how irrelevant it may seem.
Being a dutiful Guildmistress, I have consulted the Teknoguilders on how to best deal with this problem. According to Garth, the first thing you must know is that many free web-hosts (whatever they may be - Garth says they be some form of beforetime propogator of trivial information)... goodness me, my mind wanders further than Maruman in a delirium... Many free web-hosts, I say, do not allow a thing called 'remote linking'. In other words, Garth says, you cannot put the url...
Garth: For the love of lore-keeping, that's U-R-L!
Elspeth: It doesn't signify, for I don't know what it means anyway. Go away.
You cannot put the URL of your image in your signature or your avatar or on your message and expect to have the image appear. It might appear on your computer, if you have been to your webpage already. This is something to do with caching. I know about caches and they usually hold highly destructive weapons, so I'd stay away from them if I were you.
The names of these web-hosts may be GeoCities or FreeWebs or Tripod. None of them will be of any assistance to you.
The good news is that there are many places in your beforetime that offer to host images for free. Two go by the strange names PhotoBucket or fotopic. Apparently, you can find them here www.photobucket.com and here www.fotopic.net. Once you have put your images on these hosts, you will be able to see the pictures here with no problems.
And that will be the last time I ever ask the Teknoguild to explain something to me. I have a headache.
