Message Board Lore!!

Please take note of the following:

- Due to spammers and lurkers, Obernewtyn.net has created this series of message boards whereby members can login and administrators have access to ALL the boards for editing purposes. It’s a bit of a pain registering again, but it’s worth it. All the message boards can now be accessed from the one place.

- Guests cannot post on most of the boards, due to spammers. Members have access to ALL posts – however – should you post obscenities, be rude to members, spam any of the boards, or harass any of our members from these boards, your membership will be revoked and your user name banned. The rating of all posts must remain PG!! Violate this rule and your message will be deleted and your membership considered for removal. DO NOT post single word replies (unless it's stated to do so in a game in the Dining Hall). If you post a one-word reply on a non-game thread, it will be deleted.

- Administrators are Avra, Min, Clare, Emerald and Buneater. Master of Obernewtyn 'Elspeth' may also post important messages from time to time. Guardians, who have board-specific administration powers, are HeartoftheDarkness, Arien, Flit, KSL, Lauren, Megana and miska. If you believe you should be a moderator of a particular board, or have any suggestions as to how we can make the site better, please leave it on the HELP message board or PM a Master of Obernewtyn.

- Keep your user name and password safe and try to remember it – please! If you can’t remember your login details, contact one of the administrators and we’ll help you out. DON'T just create a new user account - NOBODY is allowed to have more than one account without a VERY good reason.

- Finally, this is a free message board system, provided by proboards.com, and maintained by the web tech team of Obernewtyn.net – who are all, just like you, fans of the Obernewtyn Chronicles and Isobelle Carmody. We do not make any money doing this. But we want you to have fun here, and meet other Obernewtyn fans in a safe environment.

- If you feel anyone has violated these rules, please use the "Report to Elspeth" link at the bottom of any offending post/user.

There are some new rules and regulations that we'd like all of you to take note of if you want to participate in the forums regarding:

1. Image sizes.
- for signatures. Please ensure that your signature is no greater than 200 pixels in height and 500 pixels in width, in total*, or it won't be allowed.
NB. The size limit applies to your entire sig. If you have text as well as an image, then your image must be less than 200 x 500 pixels to compensate.
- for anything else (photos, etc) - anything larger than 500 x 500 pixels won't be allowed. Downsize your images before posting, or email them to someone who knows how to do it.
NB: These measures have been put into place to ensure that loading times for the forums don't get too ridiculous.

2. Other image rules.
- Do not use images that flash or flicker. These not only make it hard for people to read the boards but can also be dangerous to people who suffer from epilepsy.
- Animated images are fine, within reason.
- Keep your file sizes down. Ideally, avatars should be within 4-40kb. Signatures should be no bigger than 75kb. Anything larger can take too long to load for people on dial-up, which can lessen people's enjoyment in the boards.
- Any images that violate the image rules will be disabled until the user brings them in line with the rules.

Repeated violations of these rules will result in your signature being suspended for a month.

If you need any help with re-sizing an image or need any other sort of assistance, then ask for the assistance of someone at Image Help. They will be happy to give you a hand.

3. Warnings.
- if for some reason any member of this site is seen to be acting in an inappropriate manner (in violation of any of the above Lores) the moderators will consider giving you a strike and placing your user account on probation for designated period as follows:

1 strike - 1 month probation and banned from Members Only Area
2 strikes - 3 extra months probation.
3 strikes - account deleted.

Should members on probation receive no further strikes for the probationary period the strike will be deleted and the account status returned to normal.

Should any user accrue three strikes to their name, their account will be deleted.

NB: striking is not to be taken lightly, and will only be undertaken by the moderators of these boards after a lot of evidence has proven the user deserves a strike.

At least 3 moderators will agree on the strikable offence before the user is placed on probation. Do not take it upon yourself to give someone a strike, or you will be seen in violation and risk striking yourself.
Strikable offences are/include all of the rules outlined in these two posts.

On that happy note, please be aware that these regulations are only in place to make Obernewtyn.net a fun, safe, happy place for everyone.

* If you have two or more images in your sig, they must not exceed 200 x 500 pixels in total. For instance, you may not have two images which are 200 x 500 pixels in size. Instead, those two images must fit within the 200 x 500 pixel limit.

PLEASE NOTE:
If you do happen to post with a signature too large for these boards, it will be replace by a MoO with this image:

It is up to you then to get your original sig resized and replace the Maruman image.
