I dunno if this is the right place to ask this question, and it is a pretty geek question... but I'm curious...
Have any of you guys actually met Isobelle Carmody? What was she like? Were you able to keep your cool in her presence?

I met her at the Sydney Writer's Festival back in 2000/2001 with a couple of other obernetters (our first Sydney Meet!) I don't quite remember it anymore... we told her of the new domain name and she told us an amusing anecdotes about her disagreeable laptop that kept breaking. I remember thinking she was a lot more colourful than I was expecting.. wearing this really nice bluey greeny top (I was expecting black clothing and silver jewellery like the publicity shot on the pack of Darkfall). Oh.. and she's very kind hearted and doesn't like to disappoint her readers. Infact, I still feel terribly terribly guilty. We spent so long talking to her and taking photos that she missed her lift to the airport and she had to catch a taxi.

I met her at the Brisbane 2000 writers festival, and also went along with other obernetters (the first BRISBANE meet! lol). She was fantastic. She did two talks, was a member on a panel/forum and signed autographs the rest of the time. It was fantastic. She actually recognised me - I'd written a couple of letters and sent her a postcard while she was in Prague that year. We were the first in line at the autographs, and stayed there talking to her while she was signing other books. It's where she told us that Domick obviously had something to do with Rushton's kidnapping, and that what happens in the end will be a surprise, plus revealed where she got the name Obernewtyn from (explanation is on the theories site) and a load of other stuff. Since then we've continued writing...I just mailed a letter off to her yesterday actually, telling her about many things including Sneding

Better still, ask/beg/plead with your librarian to nab Ms Carmody while she's visiting schools? All the details are on the AN ANNOUNCEMENT thread in the Mem only area.
*wishes she was still at school*

There is a Sara Douglass forum thing, but it split off from her actual board when she closed it down.
I'll give you the link if you like.

Well I haven't actually met Isobelle but we exchanged a few letters a couple of years back and she seemed pretty cool from that. I know a lot of writer's wouldn't even bother replying.
I'd like to meet her tho.

Wow! u r all so lucky! i am so curious to meet her, especially if she is so nice! How do u get her to come to your school? *hyperventilates at the thought...* I doubt she would come to a little maitland school though..... sigh. Oh well. How do u write to her? you talked about writing her letters. I just want to thank her for hours of entertainment and theorizing and cool oberfriens, for whom i never would have met with out her....lucky ppl who get her coming to their school...

As do we. Judging by the age of them, it was several years ago. Maybe even a century or two!

The books in my school library remain unsigned. I could get them a signed copy of the Lenard Long OAM book though, but that's not fiction... It's paintings...
