Hey HoD, The graphics standard these days is Photoshop, but unless you're serious about graphic design (as a career perhaps), I wouldn't spend the money on it! Our dear Bunly one is most fond of a program called Paint Shop Pro. You can download a trial of it here.

Why, thank-ewe, good Min. I am indeed fond of PSP. Of late, I've been adapting Photo Shop tutorials into PSP ones and I'm amazed at what I'm discovering about my favourite graphics program. About the only thing it can't do is a decent emboss effect.

I use Macromedia Fireworks quite a bit, and though it's not cheap, I think you can get it at a decent price being a student.
Actually, I think we used to have Paint Shop Pro. It was a really old version like version 4 or something, and we apparently were "on day 1056 of your 30 day evaluation period." That was pretty cool. But that is unfortunately all I remember about it, so I cant compare the two!
You used to be able to get a free trial of Fireworks but I cant for the life of me find it now. Anyway, definately a good idea to try before you buy cause all the different programs are different in what they can and can't do, and, more importantly, how easy it is to do them.

If you contact someone who sells the software, they might be able to sned you a CD-trial. Check the Macromedia (Fireworks), Jasc (PSP) and Adobe web sites for Australian resellers, give the nearest one to you a call, tell them you're a student hunting for a graphics program and see what they'll sned you to try

Sometimes you can get a trial version on one of those sampler CDs that you find on APC Magazine (Australian Personal Computer). But PSP isn't always on there - so beware!

I use Photoshop, which is great cause recently at school we've been taught to use it so I was braver and had an idea what I was doing when I fiddled with my own version (which is different, more up to date than school's, but since I know the basics adapting isn't too hard)

The potential of photoshop is amazing. I've been using it for about 2 years now and still learning new stuff. If you want some great tutorials, head over to www.photoshop101.comBut really, if it weren't for photoshop, we wouldn't have had this year's moonfair web site (looking the way it did, anyway). It's revolutionised the way I design sites.

What annoys me about Photoshop is some of the stuff I like doing in school's version I can't do in mine and some of the stuff i like in mine I can't do in school's!

Hehe - Cat-Eyes, you should try doing stuff in PSP and then trying to work with PhotoShop. I have PSP at home and PhotoShop at work and it's an interesting exercise trying to work out how to do things in PhotoShop that I can do in PSP... ;D
